I was abused by my christian parents.

I would like to live long enough to see humanity mature out of superstition and free the world from human greed.

  • Their beliefs were not false.

According to you. That’s why I said “evidently”. There is no evidence for those claims.

James and Paul were basically skipping to get a CHANCE at disproving Christianity and they converted after investigating

They were lied to like everyone else.

His message was not even one of those things except dangerous (to the pharisees and rome). James and Paul converted after Jesus had been crucified, so how could they be convinced unless the risen Jesus came to them?

Seizures. Liars. Some guy could have shown up and said “it’s me, the risen Jesus. Here’s how you can serve me going forward.”

It is a dangerous message to all life because it is untrue. It’s a death cult.

500 people hallucinated the same thing at once?

No. We don’t have 500 eyewitness accounts. We have one guy (who made have had a medical problem) claiming there were 500 eyewitnesses. We don’t even have James’s account of seeing Jesus, do we?

  • This just comes off as bigotry.

You are the bigot. I am defending reality from your death cult.

There’s nothing unintelligent with being religious or the lack thereof it.

Yes, there is. You accept claims without evidence. You pretend magic is real. You ignore blatant contradictions in the bible. You pretend hate is love. You lack critical thinking skills. It’s dangerous.

Yes, I, like the majority of humanity, believe in the supernatural.

    Citation needed.

    There’s nothing wrong with that.

Yes there is, you selfish moron. There is only one truth. “Supernatural” means not real. Stop believing in things that are not real. Beliefs drive our actions. You are actively making the world worse by pretending magic is real. You support the same death cult that ruined my life and is killing more people every day.

It is wrong to be wrong. Grow up.

If you’re referring to your specific upbringing within a family in the Southern United States within a Baptist denomination as the “death cult”, then no, I am not defending that.

All the abrahamic faiths are death cults. Yahweh is a death god. He solves problems of his own making with needless violence. Christians worship a zombie savior, drink his blood, eat his flesh. Belief in an afterlife devalues our real lives. My parents think they are going to heaven when they die. They don’t care when human life is lost, they pretend the dead are better off that way.

And you are defending it. Magical thinking is intolerable.

It sounds like they didn’t even teach you anything about “believe or you’ll perish” but didn’t give you anything to believe in.

Don’t make assumptions. Ask questions. Kids are dying for this.

This is a misconception. Jesus in the New Testament talks about hell and warns of impending doom, in addition to Revelation (more than the old testament).

It was their interpretation, the church’s and my parents’. How do you know they were wrong and you are right? There is no standard, no way to verify. You already normalized delusion, and I was abused for it. There is no undoing that.

The least you can do is stop spreading this cancer.

Your false beliefs are a threat to all life.

While the Old Testament also demonstrates God’s patience and love, teaches you to love your neighbour, etc.

Dumb fuck: “do what I say or suffer” IS NOT LOVE. God is not patient in the bible, he’s impulsive, cruel, and really fucking stupid. “I made man bad. I flood world. Oops, man still bad. Oh well.” What an idiot.

Fuck you for choosing death. There is blood on your hands, murderer.

  • This is a fact

No, it is not. The fact is that they made a claim. What they claimed is evidently not factual.

He turned fishermen into scholars and philosophers and theologians. Their lives were radically transformed

They followed a cult leader and got themselves killed for false beliefs. You think that’s a good outcome?

I’m not sure you get this. This is like Donald Trump waking up one day, disbanding ICE, apologizing for his actions, turning himself in for those crimes and putting welfare above warfare.

I’m not sure you get this. It doesn’t matter how much people like a guy, that doesn’t make him correct.

If Jesus and his followers were lying, James and Paul would’ve been the PERFECT semi-biased-against-them investigators. But they investigated and converted.

They were fooled like the others. Jesus’s message was hypocritical, dangerous, and stupid, but he was evidently very persuasive.

If it was a hallucination, why would his tomb be empty and james and paul converted after investigation?

    These are three separate things.

The tomb may not have been empty at all, we cannot verify historically. But if it was, I find it more likely that someone took the body than that a dead man came back to life after so much time.

Hallucinations may happen independently of whether the tomb was empty or not. Believers may have imagined Jesus, or dreamed about him, or hallucinated while on some kind of drug. It’s also possible look-alikes claimed to be him, or (unlikely) Jesus faked his own death and appeared to them himself. It’s also possible the claims are simply false, we have no way of verifying. I find all of these explanations more likely than a miraculous resurrection.

As for James and Paul, it only shows that they were convinced, not that the resurrection was true. And how do we know Jesus appeared to James? Because Paul said so? It’s also worth noting that Paul’s teachings deviate from and conflict with Jesus’s. Whatever he saw, it likely was not the same character we read about in the gospels.

Paul’s experience may be consistent with symptoms of temporal lobe epilepsy: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1032067/

  • You don’t know me, yet you make these accusations against me. Why?

In the few interactions we have had, you have actively defended a death cult. This behavior harms you, me, and everyone else. I consider it a sign of dangerous unintelligence when someone pretends that magic is real, a staggering lack of reading comprehension to fail to recognize the bible as fiction.

I read your song a while ago. If I may- what did John Stowe and Christine do? It appears you also say that your parents physically abused you as an infant.

Thanks. Yes, they hit my brothers and me when we were young. They stopped when we got older, presumably because they feared we’d start to hit back. My parents violently forced me to attend church three times a week, where we were yelled at by our southern baptist pastor that we would all burn forever in hell if we didn’t accept the “love” of Jesus. I have been suicidal all my life.

I wasn’t going to accept Jesus until my parents forced me to go to a summer camp. There I was told that if I went to hell, my parents in heaven would miss me. So I “accepted Jesus” and all the abusive bullshit that came with it. I believed in god for decades, but it made me a shitty person. God is your own ego given divine authority.

    This is not okay.

I agree. But it’s the norm in the bible belt. People laugh at me for pointing out how bad it was, people insist I am weak for crying out instead of acknowledging that it was child abuse. They want to keep spreading their cult until it kills us all because they think they’re going to heaven. So I push back on magical thinking, but especially christianity, whenever I can.

You also said they worshipped a different god to the bible?

Everyone does. The god of the bible is inconsistent with the god of the bible, so each believer makes up their own version of him and pretends it’s the same.

Specifically, I believed in a loving god, but my parents embodied the cruel and violent tyrant of the old testament.

  • The basic aspects of the universe that God created can be observed and explored. He didn’t need to convey it in written scripture, which is the only way a redemption story could have been preserved.

Excuse me? Your excuse is “he didn’t have to do it”? So you believe he chose to do it, but fucked it up because he didn’t actually care that much?

Why do we need a redemption story instead of just… love?

Once again, it appears your argument fell apart but you’re trying to claim victory anyway

Which argument? When did I claim victory? Take care not to project, I don’t think like you do.

Seems to be a heart issue ragher than a head issue.

No, silly goose, the heart pumps blood. The brain does the thinking. My brain sees a godless world. My brain sees irreconcilable errors in the bible and its believers.

For the record, I was a believer for a long time. My parents wouldn’t have it any other way. They violently brainwashed me, their real child, in the name of their fake god.

See my first and only post for a song I wrote about it.

But irrespective of my own experience, it is factual that we have zero evidence for god’s existence.

Basically all human suffering is a product of human activity anyway and the rejection of God, God doesn’t inflict suffering on us.

    So god is not all-powerful?

Because you can’t have it both ways. If he is all-powerful, knew what would happen, knew what we would do with our free will and chose to make us and this world anyway, literally everything is his choice.

Suffering is caused by the lack of goodness.

Nah, it’s caused by selfish dipshits like you. And disease. And natural disasters. Did god decide random suffering was necessary in addition to his utterly arbitrary curses?

Why does anyone suffer for choices they did not make?

But God does promise us the end of all suffering anyway. He will punish all wickedness and exalt the humble and meek. All one must do is accept Jesus Christ as their personal saviour, and let Him transform them. He will have eternal life.

It’s a death cult. Grow up. My friends are dead because you love this baseless, abusive bullshit more than real life.

  • FACT 1: A Jewish Rabbi named Jesus of Nazareth was killed by crucifixion in the first century by Roman executioners.

Sure, I think something like this happened based on available evidence, though it is scant.

FACT 2: Jesus’ followers had real experiences after Jesus’ death that they believed were appearances of Jesus, risen from the dead.

This is not a fact. This is a claim made long after Jesus died. But maybe they believed magic happened, sure.

FACT 3: Jesus’ followers’ lives were transformed as a result of this belief—even to the point of being willing to die for their belief in His resurrection.

Some people flew planes into buildings, dying for their beliefs. Does that make them true?

What happened at Jonestown? Many more people died there, does that make it more true?

FACT 4: James and Paul – both enemies of Jesus’ message – came to believe in Jesus’ resurrection and became Christians as a result. Both claimed the reason was that Jesus spoke to them after His death.

Maybe they missed their pal and thought about him a lot.

FACT 5: Jesus was buried in a tomb in Jerusalem which was found empty shortly after His death.

    Sure.

these are a series of facts most historians agree with

None of which suggest the existence of magic. Jesus was a cult leader, and his cult was repurposed to suit someone else’s agenda.

The body being stolen and the disciples lying cannot be true due to facts 4, 2 and 3

Yes, both can still be true. People steal bodies, even shortly after death, especially if he was a popular or famous person. People cling to false beliefs even if it kills them, sometimes.

hallucination theories are proven false due to fact 4 and 5

    No, still perfectly possible.

Jesus “didnt really die” theories are disproven due to fact 1 and 4

I find this one unlikely anyway, but it is possible he had a double killed in his place. I suspect he really did die. I have no reason to believe he or anyone else was resurrected after 3 days.

  • The universe, as agreed upon is the combination of time, space and matter

I suppose? The universe is everything, all of existence, from what I understand. Your model leaves out light, massless photons.

    so if it was created

Big if! We have no reason to assume it was.

the creator needs to be outside of time, space and matter and be powerful enough to create the universe and be loving enough to create it even though he didnt need it

And so did his creator. Right? Or is this special pleading again?

Also, a god who would give kids cancer is not doing it out of love. I resent my parents for giving birth to me. This life is more suffering than joy, and that is largely thanks to your death cult and others.
