I think by pearls of wisdom you mean the Pearl of Great Price, but that was really just a supplement to the Old Testament, expounding on Moses and their belief of the creation.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ were commanded not to drink hot drinks, interpreted by prophets as coffee and tea. Members recently have, when asked why, claimed their teachings were that they were to abstain from caffeine because the caffeine is addictive and that’s why Coffee was bad. However, this was and has never been the doctrine. The doctrine was purely to abstain from coffee and certain types of tea, as the “hot drinks” in the book of the Doctrine and Covenants that has been interrpreted by modern-day prophets. Never has a prophet established that caffeine is the culprit for the reason for abstaining, infact, the same book also establishes that God has only given commandments for the purposes of spirituality, rather than mortality. But because of the member-spread tradition, many members have believed–falsly–that they had been taught to abstain from caffeine and therefore also abstain from chocolate. This has never been the case, but has merely been member tradition and has unfortunately spread as what their church teaches. The doctrine of the church is relatively simple, but you have to sift member traditions (such as being republican, or not drinking caffeine, or not letting their children play with non members, or not being able to gamble, or not being able to consume caffeine, or being homophobic) from the teachings of the Church, which is to have Faith in Jesus Christ, repent, be baptized, receive the Holy Ghost, and Endure to the end.
People have no idea what Mormons believe, the other day I saw someone saying they couldn’t eat chocolate and the comment had hundreds of upvotes

I think what your post was getting at was valid, and I promide I will do my best to not be the reason Lemmy has a lack of content, i want to do my best to contribute! I don’t think your intentions were wrong, and hope you continue to advocate for people to contribute.
I have, thankfully, seemed to have avoided a lot of the furry porn. If you like it, more power to you! I’m thankful I can avoid that kind of content!
Your rant post is ill-placed, because I’m trying to do that. I’ve already posted and commented multiple posts in communities I enjoy trying to garner attention and content. But i’m also a busy person who’s trying to live with a family, children, and a budding carreer. I understand I need to be a part of the community and I am doing more now than I ever have on Reddit.
EDIT: I also wanted to add that this post is not about me complaining about a lack of content, it was a misunderstanding of the sorting algorithm. After posting this, I got lots of very helpful advice to help me use Lemmy’s sorting better and my enjoyment of Lemmy has improved immensly to the point of where my experience on Lemmy is no longer lame.
EDIT 2: I must have misread your post because it was not condesending, but more motivating. I appreciate the sentiment and redact the condesending part, but stand by the rest of what I’ve said. I deleted the entire second paragraph because I was defensive and wrong in its entirety. I appreciate the sentiment while affirming I am trying to contribute more while my life is still very busy. I apologize for getting defensive.
I did that and it confused the hell out of me, half of my instances communities were empty all of a sudden
Seems like it, only old posts dont dissapear into the void, they stick around forever.
Your typo calling Elon melon is the cherry on top of this discussion
That was my main reason for posting this question, to see if I’m alone in this site with just a bunch of bots posting. All these responses have given me hope!
The amount of responses in this post have been extremely reassuring. I honestly just felt like I was using the site alone with a bunch of bots lol
I appreciate the sorting suggestion! I’ll try that. I understand that Lemmy isn’t as big as Reddit, but I swear there are more people than my feed is leading me to believe.
Thanks, I’ll keep trying to do my part to grow my favorite communities on Lemmy.
I think it’s smart on Valve’s part. With how litigation-happy Nintendo is, I don’t think Valve really wants to go to bat for a program that isn’t even their own, and isn’t even needed on Steam anyway.
I use an Android, and I wouldn’t necessarily say that Android sms messaging is good software. Most of our sms apps either suck, are mined by corporations for data, or both. Apple isn’t better in those regards, I’m just saying that it isn’t one of Android’s strengths over Apple.
I agree wholeheartedly that fragmentation needs to be addressed.
If your instance defederates from an instance, or you are defederated from an instance you enjoy, you can always move to a new account. Unlike Reddit, you don’t have Karma to link you to your account so you can just move over to a different instance (although subscribing to all of your favorite communities again is a pain in the ass)
Only problem is they’ll be replaced by someone far worse.
