  • Sometimes it’s just a passion project by crazy people. My town has a shack on a busy non-walkable intersection without even parking spaces that sells only angel figurines. Let me be clear, this isn’t general angel knickknacks, this isn’t specific saints, it’s angel figurines ONLY. You will find no bless this house signs. No Christmas tree toppers or ornaments. Not a single holiday decoration, religious or otherwise. You won’t even find Jesus on the cross.

Angel. Figurines. Only. I always assumed it was a front for something until my mom helped with some taxes for them. No, it’s just one crazy couple who are obsessed with the sanctity of the angel figurine. They feel very strongly about it and asking if they do garden angels now that spring’s coming up and you’d love to patronage them is apparently offensive enough for them to take their taxes elsewhere lol.

  • Being that person providing a better method halfway through a process. A cave person standing on top of another to cave art the ceiling? Halfway through I go “…You know you coulda just grabbed the log from outside, leaned it against the wall and climbed it”. Someone halfway through whittling a bowl? “Oh, yeah, I saw some coconuts on the beach they’d be perfect”.

I have the great hobby of Looking At Random Things, but the bad habit of assuming everyone else saw those things too so they must be doing what they’re doing for a reason lol. That all said I’m sure I’d be dead from dysentery within a week or smtg, they wouldn’t have to suffer me long.

  • That’s not true for women’s clothes… It’s sundresses right now and I’m getting all the ones with pockets I can find and so are a bunch of other women, they sell out fast. The issue is the pockets are usually incorrectly positioned and rotated in such a way anything you put in them falls out on top of being tiny so now things are 2x more likely to fall out AND you’re constantly patting yourself down to find the damn pocket. I had one I really wanted to buy, but couldn’t cause the pocket was angled for me to be covertly groin shooting someone with a gun, not making sure my keys stay on my person lol.

  • Yeah, I really wish you could just do an indefinite pause. I wanted to cancel last summer cause I found the We’re Alive podcast and got the “you’ll lose all your credits, but we’ll give you 3 months at $5 a month” message. Took me like three months to get through We’re Alive lol, swapped to Hangman’s Daughter and then found Behind the Bastards, right back where I started 🙃

But thank you for the suggestions! Definitely seems we align lol I have paper Hitchhikers and Good Omens, hadn’t thought of getting them on audiobook before even though I love them, my inner reading “voice” isn’t much better than text-to-speech tbh so that’s some great suggestions. Haven’t heard of the others except Dune (cause my dad loved the 80s(?) movie lol) so I really appreciate it!

  • Yeah I’ve def enjoyed it! I have up through vol 9 I think just got a bit burnt out cause I was absolutely obsessed like jan-june last year lol. I’ll definitely get back to it, but tbh probably not on audible. I found the Behind the Bastards podcast recently and been going through it so I don’t really like how audible makes me keep subbing just to not lose credits I already bought :/

  • Once put one of those plastic wrapped potatoes in my uniform apron to put back in produce at my first retail job (got abandoned in the mac and cheese section). I then completely forgot and took it home. Took it out of my apron and put it on my desk next to my car keys because “I’ll remember to take it back”. I did not. Lived with me for a week or something when I finally put it in my apron again because I wasn’t remembering. I took it to work. I completely forgot about it and never returned it. It made this trip several times. I put it back on my desk because this wasn’t working out, surely I’ll remember if I see it.

Then I forgot about it for like three months. One day I look over at my desk and it’s a shriveled potato with a new potato growing from its own husk…

In essence, potatoes are amazing and horrifying. Just like my short term memory lol.

  • Echoing move to SNW. It has a higher budget than older Trek and follows the current trend of “mini-series” storytelling. Older Trek follows older TV rules (wanted 26 eps to a season so a lot of filler to make it so). DS9 would be my other rec with a heavy caveat that if you’re not feeling an ep skip it and look it up on memory alpha later, particularly for the first season. As it goes on it gets more into the long form storytelling you’d expect with today’s shows, but first few seasons can be a bit rough and there can be a long time between plots being revisited (but when they are they make it count). TNG, Voyager and TOS are mainly monster/problem of the week (Voyager kind of weakly straddles longform and episodic leaning heavily towards episodic). Out of them I’d recommend TNG outside of the first two seasons (first season is TOS scifi tales encore, second season I actually like a lot and has some good eps, but general like is a minority opinion and cast gets retooled in third season anyway).

If you don’t mind kids shows also recommend Prodigy (kinda like a Trek ATLA imo).

  • I usually ask for elaboration as a social puzzle for what my party picked up about bonds/traits/flaws (tbf they don’t hit on random barkeeps). If they correctly target something they don’t have to roll. If they lead with “let’s ditch the twerp and take a spin around the sheets” to the NPC who tearfully asked them to help her protect her little brother that’s going to be a roll to maintain relations lol. Or my party’s fav for trying to join factions: “so you’ve seen me backstab my good friends, I’m in fact well and widely known for backstabbing, but I would never do that to you, I’m 100% devoted to the cause and also here’s my extensive list of things I want for allowing you to license my name in your faction with a clause I reserve the right to refuse any duties I don’t feel help me personally even though you’re a noble order of paladins dedicated to helping the unfortunate for no reward” lmao (actual negotiation).
