  • Might be alone in this but I did appreciate 4chan for chatting about niche topics that don’t really work elsewhere. Reddit is just the same 3-5 topics over and over mixed with horny shit and you can’t really have a conversation on Twitter, so unless there’s some forum that’s been running for 20 years about your hyperfixation, 4chan was the best option. Gonna miss weekly manga dumps and some of the smaller videogame generals.

If 4chan had shut down a decade ago it might have been nice, since the culture was more confined to the website, but now even Hexbear has fucking wojaks so what’s the point?

  • Am I wrong? Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, all preach that doing certain things in this life will reward you, either by going to heaven or escaping the cycle or whatever. Christianity explicitly teaches that being persecuted is to be expected and good. Any good deeds done by organized religion are incidental and easily outweighed by their harm.

I’m always surprised by how many people are willing to go to bat for religion on a supposedly leftist website.

  • Religion is “compatible” with Marxism in the sense that a Marxist state need have no problem with citizens who practice their religions in peace without theocracy, like (I believe) happens in Cuba.

I don’t think this is true. The influence of religion in Cuba (and China for that matter) is small enough that trying to convert everyone to atheism is understandably very low on their government’s list of priorities.

The whole point of religion is to assure you that your suffering in this life is okay because you’ll be rewarded in some future life. It’s antithetical to a materialist worldview, to establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat. Like, there’s a reason all the great Marxist authors were atheists.

  • “Our cause?” Hexbear doesn’t have a cause, it doesn’t do anything. It has the least revolutionary potential of any leftist website I’ve ever used. I’m here because it’s fun to shitpost sometimes.

IRL, yeah, there are better uses of your time than trying to convince people that astrology is bullshit. But having a materialist worldview and believing in astrology (or religion, for that matter) are contradictory, and getting rid of those brainworms via self-crit is something any communist should be trying to do.

I should mention that I’m not trying to portray myself as the perfect commie here, I still have my own brainworms. It’s just the kind of thing that we should all be striving to get rid of.
