Regardless of where your backup folder is, your machine needs writable access to it in order to make new backups.

And if an AI agent has root-level access on your machine (needs root to install things), then it will be able to access that backup folder and potentially be able to delete its contents.

It’s kind of insane when you think about it. Makes the saving process significantly longer and requires more button inputs … and 99% of the time, the answer is of course yes.

IMO, a much more sensible solution would have been to use the Player ID number that the game already keeps track of, randomly generated at the start of each new game. When saving the game, check if the Player ID matches, and only prompt for “are you sure you want to overwrite it” if the Player ID doesn’t match what’s in the previous save file. That way, you’d only have to deal with this prompt if you’re overwriting an old save with a new, different game.

If AI and human labor cost exactly the same, I bet most CEOs would still want to fire everyone and replace them with AI. Capitalism (and most other organized hierarchical power structures) favor and reward sociopathy. Sociopaths might not be any more likely to have pedophilic inclinations than anybody else, but they are more likely to act on those inclinations if they have them, while others – who have functioning empathy – are more likely to realize it’s wrong and resist those urges if they have them.

The disorders that make someone more likely to act on pedophilic impulses are the same disorders that help someone climb the hierarchy and claim dominance.

And the empathy and human decency that holds most people back from the ruthless pursuit of power are the same factors that can make someone with pedophilic attraction less likely to act on that attraction.

That’s why we’re ruled by pedophiles – not just now, but for pretty much all of recorded history.
