Just wanted to drop you a thanks for starting this sub-thread. I also recently finished W3 (after a couple of false starts) and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I know it’s just a step-and-fetch game, but the storytelling has spoiled me for shallower content (plus I suuuuuuuck at aiming a firearm with the joystick so I’ve yet to get into Cyperpunk). Anyway, Nier GOTY is in my catalog so the responses to you have been illuminating.

I find it more neckbeard than Reddit, and I mean that in the most offensive way. Reddit was big enough that there were lots of places they either didn’t participate or were so rare as to not be annoying. They’re everywhere here on the big, fully federated servers.

By the same token, the semi-federated, more restrictive instances (yes, I mean beehaw) are actually quite nice places and really does feel like a mature place to casually discuss things.

In general, though, lemmy is a desert or ghost town of vibrant niche, non-IT focused communities with regular participation.

They don’t just hate her for being a woman, they hate her for being a successful woman who overtly mocks them (not the deplorables comment - it’s the way she outmaneuvered them and pointed out their genuine policy errors in the past 2.5 decades of her political life). If she had been male they would hate her with the fire of a thousand suns. That she is a woman just makes them go apoplectic on top.

TBH, she’s much closer to my (moderate) political ideology than those (here on Lemmy) who favor a far more liberal leader and I agree she would have made a good president.

It goes back to the 90s with her. They (republicans if practically every strip) hated that she would have the audacity to be anything other than a dinner host while First Lady. She is a massively polarizing figure and, literally, polls worse among center (by US standards) and right voters than “nobody”.

They still probably world have won in 2016. Every person in the DNC is blind to how much everyone, everyone outside the party absofuckinglutely hates Hillary Clinton.

I was going to say “old age” but, yeah, stubborn is definitely the personality trait. :-)

I was in the middle of Witcher 3 when I got my deck, and pausing during a cut scene (and some are feature film length, it fells like) caused the video to go slide-show and the audio to get choppy, and there was no recovering the game. I basically had to go back to the previous save and play back to that point. PITA. Something similar happened in one other game (can’t remember at the moment) and I just gave up suspend unless it was something simple / mindless like Yoku’s Island Express.

Usually I just suspend in-game to the game’s menu, then hardware-suspend. That’s pretty reliable.

It would be better if I could boot up and chose my launcher just like I choose Netflix, HBO, or Hulu from my Roku home screen. Of course, that could be accomplished with a custom front end / explorer in Windows, but since MS is pushing more into the OSX “we own the experience” with tons overhead and reduced customizable UI, and none of the other launchers support Linux, it’s pretty much just a pipe dream.

My experience with suspend has not been good - causing glitching and requiring shutting the game down and reloading from a previous save whenever I suspended in a cut scene. As a result I haven’t used it much due to those first couple of trials; maybe it’s better now.

I get it, and lol or whatever, but Ireland is getting two ferries(?) from entirety of the mainland, and the UK is still connected via the tunnel which looks to be a major link-hub for the new system. I guess if it weren’t for Brexit there might have been an Edinburgh-Amsterdam or -Brussels link, but it’s not like Aberdeen or New Castle was going to get any love.

Not popular- commercial. The early internet had effectively no profit motive. As it aged there was a modicum of balance between use and profit - a good site drives customers. Now there are a preponderance of sites which exist only to scrape pennies off advertisers and have no useful content except that which is required to garner a click from a search engine in hopes you will accidentally create an advertising impression.
