Human civilisation feels like it’s regressing.
Can we please just have a good ending with this one where the Germans protest the nazis out of town. The world kind of needs this right now. Please Germany, show us that anti-fascist resistance is possible and history is not doomed to repeat itself forever.
We’ve had political, social and economic revolutions before without shit collapsing. Lots of death and destruction though generally. People don’t give up power easily unfortunately.
I disagree. Sewers are useful and serve an important function in society. X does not.
Nothing justifies bombing children. Noone’s ‘right to defend themselves’ should include this.
I actually don’t blame you because I would feel the same way if I lived in America. I hate guns, but would feel the need to have a gun if I lived there. It seems like such a cycle of mutually assured destruction that just keeps escalating out of control.
Australian here. We had one really bad mass shooting and then our government (who was also one of the most conservative governments in the last 50 years) banned guns. Haven’t had one since. Guns just aren’t a thing here and we kind of think you’re a weird country for being so obsessed with guns. I also personally think it’s weird that guns are like the symbol of your freedom, yet you don’t have universal healthcare. Universal healthcare offers so much more freedom than guns do.
In saying that a lot of countries have guns and don’t have the same problem with mass shootings. What the US has is a cultural problem in terms of your relationship with guns and violence. Unfortunately, doing a mass shooting is now a normalised way to deal with your problems. Not all of you, obviously. But enough of you that it’s gotten completely out of control. In Australia I don’t think it was just the banning of guns that has reduced mass shootings. We have a culture in Australia of ‘don’t be a dickhead’. I think when we had our mass shooting we all collectively just said yeah nah mass shootings are next level dickhead behaviour.
If Argentina votes in the anarcho-capitalist guy who gets policy advice from his dogs (technically one dog that’s been cloned several times) then this will really take the cake for darkest timeline.
Normalcy bias for sure. Just like at the start of covid.
Your fascist cookers funded our fascist cookers during this referendum campaign lol.
How much time have you got? I guess the biggest factor is that referendums are hard to pass in Australia, especially when the campaign becomes partisan. And this one was VERY partisan. But also Australia has a particular type of racist ignorance when it comes to our First Nations Peoples and our colonial history in general. We’re now currently the only settler colonial nation that has not recognised its First Nations Peoples in their constitution. Settler colonialism is not a competition, but if it was Australia kind of wins the gold. I say that as a white Australian.
This seems like a really unevenly weighted war. Israel has nukes and is supported by most of the west. Vengeance and violence are also never a good mix so this will likely get ugly fast. It’ll be interesting to see where the line is, if it exists at all, on how much violence the West will publicly support.
But Australia did start buying subs from the US not long after this…
You should look up our history of colonisation. The nazis took inspiration from it.
They did but I don’t think America has ever had a president so outwardly supportive of nazis in the way that Trump is. The holocaust started with events similar to what went down at this particular rally. It was very much a sign of shit escalating. Now you have people waving nazi flags to protest Disney, so it’s fair to say shit has indeed escalated.
I’m 30 and don’t feel like a have a future in the way that other generations before me had. Can’t even imagine how those younger than me must be feeling. I at least got to fuck around a bit in my early youth as you could still afford to then. I grew up knowing climate change was coming, but it wasn’t until my mid 20s when I started to lose hope in our ability to address it. Still got a good 25 years of feeling hopeful though. Kids these days get none of that.
I’ve always thought it’s because they’re not Iran / Muslim. Israel is an important geopolitical ally in a region that is quite hostile to the US generally.
Me in Australia: finally something we’re ahead of everyone on
