I will say, from my own limited experience, instances of racist/bigoted comments have diminished over time.

I’ll be clear, it still happens. But it’s less than it was.

I’m continually hopeful that racism will be eliminated in future generations, and it is my wish that it happens soon.

I’ll also be clear: I don’t keep company with that kind of person. Anyone who can judge another based on their country of origin, the color of their skin, or their creed/motto/whatever alone, isn’t worth my time, nor effort to associate with, know, or have any kind of relationship with at all, for any reason, for any length of time. Those people are not worth my time nor mental effort to accommodate. They’re not even worth the oxygen they consume.

I’m in a riding that is consistently held by the conservatives, and not by a small amount. There are something like 40-50k votes cast in my riding and the reference between lib and conservative was about 6k.

I still go out and vote, because some day the 6k difference might be 12 individual votes…

If the conservatives win by a handful of votes, and I didn’t vote, I don’t think I could forgive myself.

I’m in Southern Ontario and I’m definitely not a minority.

I see the racist rhetoric regularly. People see me, a straight white male, and more than a few times, mistake me for a like-minded individual, and they let their racism spew out like bile.

Makes me sick.

It also makes me sick to think that Canadians could be so cruel to the indigenous peoples. I don’t think any amount of time, reparations, or anything else, could make up for what occurred.

We’re Canadians, if you’re not indigenous, then you’re either an immigrant, or the descendant of an immigrant. We’re all here, equal in the eyes of the law (not law enforcement/police, the letter of the law), and there’s no good excuse to act otherwise. United we stand, divided we fall. One country in particular, wants us to be divided. Don’t let them win.

We wanted to do it this year on our anniversary, which was about a month ago now, but there was too much going on financially that even throwing a modest party with the budget constraints was going to create problems. We both had job disruptions in the last months of 2024, and things have just been a bit to hard financially to really bother.

We’re starting to save for next year already. Planning shall begin soon.

However. Legally speaking, when you get married, you are considered as a single legal entity in many things including court/law enforcement/taxes.

A person cannot be compelled to bear witness to their partners actions in court, in the USA, that’s the fifth amendment, in Canada, it’s section 11© of the charter of rights and freedoms. The basic concept being that you have the right to remain silent (and not incriminate yourself).

While I don’t plan on doing any crime or anything… That’s a nice perk.

Also, she hates doing her taxes, so when we’re married, I can do taxes for both of us.

There’s very few perks here and bluntly, it’s not worth the cost…

I liked notepad for it’s simplicity.

Even notepad++ was way more complex than notepad ever was.

It literally just used ASCII (or similar) characters to a file. You can’t open anything other than text on it, it won’t allow you to attach pictures, graphs, videos or even links. You need to type out the damned URL in its entirety.

N++ is great for what it is, but notepad, aside from it’s simplicity, was also great because it was everywhere.

Windows 11 started the down fall of my favorite simple text editor when they introduced… tabs.

I hate that. I close notepad, and then open it again and… Why is all this shit still here!!!

I don’t mind people using it for boiler plate stuff, and/or rough drafts to get a lot of the words typed out, so you can editorialize what’s there.

When doing a lot of similar things, it can save a ton of time just having someone or something draw up a draft/starting point.

Any uses beyond this, are a non-starter for me when it comes to actual business use cases. The information that AI spits out in response to a query, is not, and should not be considered to be, complete in any way, shape, or form. It absolutely will need to be reviewed, edited, checked for accuracy and finalized by a human, before it is ready to be submitted for others to ingest. Zero AI content should be sent to anyone else until it has been reviewed and fully vetted by the person using AI to generate the content.

This has not been the goal to date. A lot of AI is trying to essentially eliminate entire segments of job markets, and bluntly, it’s an insane mistake to think that, especially in its current form, that it could possibly do that, or even come close in any capacity.

It’s at best a first-draft machine, but more likely it’s a novelty that isn’t worth the risk of using in production.
