  • For a lot of them, it’s probably just that there are inherently interesting questions in society, and their plots are their best answers to that. Therefore, the result is liberals writing libslop.

At the same time, there are probably others that have an interesting pitch, with plans to write something radical, but are then stifled by liberal publishers and producers and so on. The result: ‘we loved the pitch… but maybe we could take it in a different direction???’

These producers either won’t tolerate your different viewpoint, or are frightened of the optics of publishing something like that because they don’t want any controversy.

The core remains, the interesting hook remains, but the story gets weathered off by the end. Either the writer quits, capitulates, or gets in a fight and negotiates for all sorts of little details that might let people into what they really think. It’s like Shakespeare with King James.

I’m very early in a writing career, and I’ve already had my work neutered and censored. I wasn’t even working with a large company, and I wasn’t saying anything that I thought was too controversial.

  • Well, true, but that’s an enormous hypothetical, and not really a realistic course of action. Even in that hypothetical, if a mob of 1000 people started firebombing government officials house, the police and then the national guard would deploy and start shooting. And who begins the raid? There needs to be someone to make the first move, without surefire knowing that 1000 people are about to back them up.

Next time you’re at a protest see how you feel about throwing a Molotov - let alone throwing one at a government official. I’ve been in crowds where people have done so little as lobbing bottles, and that crowd immediately got kettled by armed and mounted police, and the people who threw it got singled out, dragged out, and put in the van.

Militancy happens when people’s lives are made utterly miserable. That’s why militancy happens in exploited countries. That’s why trade unionists and anti racist groups were militant in the 20s-70’s in America, but not anymore. The conditions don’t necessitate it right now, and it’s not yet a rational response to risk your life. It seems like those conditions will come back, but it hasn’t happened yet. If that time had come already, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

  • Textbook.

America hounds a country for decades, covertly and overtly - making legitimate threats, scheming all the while for the moment of weakness in which they can strike. Country responds with military spending, and calls to action, warnings, and so on and on.

The media will then turn around and say said country is a war mongering security threat, under the thumb of a paranoid dictator.

In cases where the ‘paranoid dictator’ loosens restrictions and allows U.S influences, him and his countrymen end up in bodybags 2 years later.
