  • Keep in mind that more surface area usually means more bacteria. Afaik there’s is nothing wrong with the usual changable filters (although there are a few horrid ones).

But many private households tend to underestimate how dirty these things get, even after a short time.

Since water supplied by the municipality is usually fine and most bad stuff happens as a last-mile problem, I shower in the morning (which I have to do anyway, but it also flushes most pipes) and then wash out a large stainless steel beaker before filling it up and drinking from it for most of the day.

I’ve only used an LLM (you can guess which one) once to write code. Mostly because I didn’t feel like writing down some numbers and making a little drawing for myself to solve the problem.

And because a friend insisted that it writes code just fine.

But it didn’t. It confidently didn’t. Instead, it made up something weird and kept telling me that it had now “fixed” the problem, when in reality it was trying random fixes that were related to the error message but had nothing to do with the actual core problem. It just guessed and prayed.

In the end, I solved the problem in 10 minutes with a small scribble and a pen. And most of the time was spend drawing small boxes, because my solution relied on a coordinate system, I needed to visualize.

  • What if I can alternate between both?

Edit: I’ve looked at it a bit more:

    • I can make the black circles into “windows” that show a red circle behind a white wall.

    • I can also overlay the red circle as a mask in front of the black parts, so that only the black parts make the red circle visible (like in a shader program or when masking parts of an image in a photo editor).

    • Then I can also envision a red hue along the white parts of the image that follows the silhouette of the red circle.

    • And then I can “deactivate” the silhouette again, so that the red parts are simply drawn on top of the black circles, with no relation to each other.

I think this is just a test to see if you have experienced a certain effect before.

  • If I read the cited sources and they turn out to be a bunch of untested hypotheses based on poorly conducted studies… I’ll be mad.

Just skimming through it makes a bad first impression.

…I’m not even trying to be derisive. I’m just really angry at how much “there’s a study” has become “there’s proof”. And I shouldn’t even be mad because communicating that difference should be the authors’ job.

If you value your time, don’t read any further because I’m just going to vent a little:

So I lack any formal education (apart from ficking school). The best thing I can say about myself is that I can hold and mostly understand a conversation with people who are actually educated in their field.

But some studies are bad. Like bad-bad. So bad that I think, most people who can read should be able to recognize their flaws if they actually read them.

    For example:

I read a study a while back about genetic (as opposed to learned) prepositions of monkeys in relation to their biological sex and preference for toys.

The methodology was bad, but here’s the shittiest part imo: At the end of the study, the researchers found that of the 130 or so monkeys, only about half showed any preference for any kind toy. So the researchers excluded the unbiased monkeys from the test. Of the remaining monkeys, still only the males showed any preference for the “male” toys. So the females were also excluded. In the end, only 30 monkeys actually counted, because they showed the hypothesized difference in their preferences. And even those only showed a delta of 10-30% in the time they spent with the toys.

The study should have concluded that most monkeys don’t give a shit if a toy has wheels (like a shopping cart, which apparently makes it a “male” toy) or if it’s soft, like a plush (which is “female” because boys would never touch a plushy, of course).

Instead, they found that their hypothesis turned out to be correct, after disregarding anything that invalidated their hypothesis.

Where did I get this study from? From social media, of course. Where a bunch of meat heads “proved” that all women genetically want to be tradwives and trans people don’t exist or some shit.

    Fuck everything about this.

Which cannot connect to a phone unless it’s unlocked, as accepting every USB-C connection carries security risks. They also require negotiation, which can fail at any time, meaning you have to unlock, disconnect, reconnect.

I also have a nice, external (and still cheap) DAC on my computer. It has a headphone jack. This means I need to be able to disconnect the USB-C dongle from my headphones, unless I want to have two separate headphones for my phone and my PC. By extension this requires me to go searching for the dongle from time to time.

I love USB-C. But the headphone jack had what companies and people claim to want: simplicity.

Headphone jacks solved a single but extremly common problem very well. USB-C provides a workaround for it.
