Type C is completely compatible with types E and F, though. Among with some other ones, such as the smiling Danish socket. So, at least something is being done to standardize this mess!

Why wouldn’t you? In USA they are made for 110 V, but elsewhere they are obviously 230 V anyway.
Anyway, even if you somehow refuse to condemn the American Empire for their clear complicity in Pissrael’s ongoing genocide
I absolutely do, though. It is inacceptable. (It is also inacceptable that also Finland seems to be supporting Israel more than it supports Palestine. And especially Germany’s support for the genocide is horrible. They should know better! But USA is being far worse in this regard than anything in EU)
EU gets something like 5 % of its gas from the Russia. It used to get about two thirds, but that was changed during 2022 and 2023, and now our gas comes from other sources by ships.
But there’s still much oil that we either allow to pass through our waters on ships that are not in the condition to traverse them legally, or by outright buying the oil through some intermediaries.
And then there are a lot of companies that merrily operate in the Russia. First two companies to come to my mind that have expanded their activities in the Russia when other companies left it, are Pepsi and Nestlé, and while neither of those is from the EU, they are good examples of what is going on. The billions that Pepsi alone pays in taxes in the Russia are extremely necessary for the Russian war effort.
And in one thing you are wrong: A murderman’s landlord does not get the same punishment as the murderman, even if he has had a strong hunch that his tenant might be up to no good.
The Russia’s money still comes mainly from EU. Funding a genocider is not equal with committing a genocide.
Okay? But in Iran USA really did that kind of shit. Or at least there have been horrendous attacks against schools.
What has USA alleged about any daycares being destroyed anywhere?
Pffft 8000 civilians killed in Iran together with their entire government doesn’t even count.
Why not?
That’s within u/Lehmuusa’s acceptable limits.
Please read the comment before replying to it. As I said, 8000 civilians killed in Iran together with their entire government is such a bad deed that USA should be excluded from international sports events because of that and other similar behaviour.
Please read the comment you are replying to before replying to it.
As I said, Americans blowing up hospitals and daycares in Iran, shooting up fishing boats off the coast of Venezuela, sieging Cuba to the point of mass starvation, and facilitating genocides from Libya to Afghanistan are such horrific things that because of them USA should be excluded from international sports events.
Facts don’t care about your "I think"s. Your “I think” is an opinion. Facts are not the same as opinions. Destroying 1000 daycares is worse than destroying 100 daycares. Organizing a human safari on Kherson streets killing hundreds upon hundreds of families doing their everyday errands is worse than shooting up tens and tens of fishing boats. Etc.
The Russia, Israel and China are all doing their genocides on a scale far bigger than what USA is currently doing.
Therefore, be careful not to make it look like “these don’t need to excluded because USA isn’t”. Perfect is the enemy of good!
But otherwise I do agree: USA has no place in any international sports events as long as its behaving like the ass it’s been for at least the past 50 years.

Trans@lemmy.blahaj.zone•How to handle people using they/them instead of gendered pronouns?English
7·2 months agoMy mother tongue has no gendered pronouns. When speaking English, I regularly misgender eeveryone, because my mind cannot really wrap itself around the concept of having to keep track of my conversation partner’s gender. Or that of someone else. Even people I’ve known for decades have an about 5% chance of being misgendered.
It feels good that I can ignore people’s gender and just talk about a human. This might be an incredibly alien concept to an Indo-European, though. But still, people who only started learning Indo-European languages such as English, Spanish, Ukrainian, German, Albanian or Greek, at the age of ten will not have learned the concept of gendering people in time for it to not feel glued-on-top.
When I’m talking about everyone else as they, that being a way to avoid thinking about people’s genders, it feels odd to then speak differently about transgender people.
At least I don’t want to be only a gender. It’s much better if people can see the actual individual behind, and trying to find ways to forget about the concept of gender helps glue less stereotypes over my image as it stands in someone’s mind.
The gendered pronouns in Indo-European cultures are a very sad and harmful phenomenon. I’d say it’s the better the more people stop their usage. A man (and that also includes trans men) is a man even if you don’t spend every moment keeping track of their gender when talking. “They” helps see the individual.
Plus, it means not imposing another culture upon us who don’t have gendered pronouns.
In Finland you need to wave your hand for the bus to stop and pick you up.
I waved, and I waved, and I waved, but the bus driver just didn’t turn the blinker on.But, the bus stopped anyway.
So, me: “Hello! Is your own private car a BMW, perhaps?”
The bus driver, visibly proud that someone could recognize that from her outlook alone: “Yes, indeed!”
“Next time maybe use the blinker.”
(The bus driver looked much less proud)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you agree with this view: Why do you think societies should allow billionaires to exist? How does that benefit the common good?English
1·2 months agoApparently about 300 billion per year is what would be needed for ending extreme poverty.
I’d say we should.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you agree with this view: Why do you think societies should allow billionaires to exist? How does that benefit the common good?English
1·2 months agoNot everyone on this planet is poor. I don’t need that money. But maybe roughly 2 billion people do. And “not even a thousand dollars” is two years’ salary. In this case we’re talking about a quarter of the world’s population, so you “not even a thousand dollars” becomes “not even four thousand dollars”.
And that means: “Not even the salary for 8 years. Possibly only 5 years!”
I mean, the money is enough to completely eradicate poverty from this planet. That’s all that really matters.

2·2 months agoIn a lot of countries 10 000 dollars is the salary for about 5 000 days. Or in other words, far over 10 years. And you were talking about several tens of thousands, which means several decades of life when distributed among 300 million people, about a decade per person if distributed among a billion people.

1·2 months agoYes.
A lot of stuff here does look odd to a European such as I am, and I am sure the people writing it don’t understand that they’re assuming all the world works like their own nation does.
But that is not the point of this post. If you want to ask about my experience on Forumverse, then create a separate post for that.
You’re essentially hijacking a conversation here.

43·2 months agoWon’t happen. Not with that people. Those twelve that have not been successfully brainwashed have emigrated long since.

I’m super envious for your style! (And body, you’re lucky with that one!)
And it feels horrible what you now tell your relatives have done with you. It’s entirely unfounded. What did your cousin think of your style?
