I’ve recently been playing Remnant 2, Songs of Syx, Age of Darkness, dotAGE, Helldivers, Valheim, Against the Storm… all really impressive and amazing games made by (relatively) small studios or AA developers with a passion for games. If you’re completely new to the indie scene you probably can’t go wrong with Hades, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Terraria
Abandon AAA, buy more indie or AA games and you’ll find what you want
I remember being confused by the ending but tbh never to the extent it ruined the rest of the franchise retroactively. Not even Andromeda managed to so that! I still have fond memories of ME and I’m constantly tempted to replay it with the legendary edition, if only I had the time.
I wish i could host my own simple lightweight identity provider and authenticator that is used for fediverse instead of creating accounts everywhere. Relying on fediverse to maintain both content, but also account info, seems like a really bad idea in retrospect (even if one day we get proper ways to migrate accounts but not even Mastodon does that well yet).
It’s probably be relatively easy to establish services offering these for less tech savvy people later so they can just have a central identity service with which they can roam around in any fediverse they want later.
Wasn’t that more for games like wizardry or the more modern example, legend of grimrock? It sounds more related to what a dnd party would do than just fighting hordes of enemies.

I tried mint and had some issues with nvidia drivers, which seemed out of the ordinary since other people were fine with it. I tried PopOS next and it was fine (Bottles had some issues but games through Steam or Heroic worked out of the box basically).
Do people actually self host mail? I remember watching some conference that said it is basically a full time job nowadays to get your mails actually delivered if you’re not one of the big providers. Much easier to pay one of them and just use a custom domain instead, and I can easily see this being a thing for the fediverse one day too (assuming it ever gets big enough)
I think the biggest issue is account management. Having all these different instances wouldn’t be as bad if it were easy to switch accounts or combine their subscriptions, making it truly user-driven instead of depending on the behavior of each individual instance.
Valve’s Proton is open source but is it also free to use and distribute in commercial software? Cuz if so, there’d be nothing stopping GOG or Epic from implementing it already, they don’t need this project at all
Sounds like this would be easier to setup and use than Lutris though - dunno about everyone else but I’m always so very confused trying to get non-steam games running on linux, with all the custom paths, simulated folder structures and prefixes while steam apparently does it on its own out of the box.
Is singleplayer more compelling than Ark or Conan Exiles? Games like Valheim or Project Zomboid can completely take over my life but Ark/CE was always just kind of an aimless boring grind.
Someone must have signed off on this and thst person should have gotten jail time IMHO.
Oh yeah I played both before and after hots 2.0, I just don’t want battle passes and overpriced skins. I always thought the gold, gem and shard prices were pretty fair and accessible in hots, which made me actually spend money on it more than any other game at the time… but apparently it wasn’t designed in a way to draw the whales in so it didn’t make as much money off them.
I got blasted with a tidal wave of nostalgia when I saw this, the first game was amazing! I haven’t even thought about it for years
I started playing it again recently and it’s as good and fun as ever. If they start up the development again I hope they don’t make it worse, I don’t want hots2 with the same ‘blizzard overwatch 2’ mindset.
Why was there even pressure to deliver if the official API wasn’t even out yet? I thought they were just working on UI and basic functionality until they can plug in the API, so if anything they had more time and leisure than if everyone were screaming “i need it now”. It seems more likely they just bit more than they could chew and decided to give up the app development since it ended up being harder than they thought (and that’s completely fine to do). You don’t really make an app like this overnight, especially if you have no prior experience doing it.
Lorca got me through discovery for a season or two and then he was gone, I don’t think I watched anything beyond it. I hear it’s only gotten worse, somehow
