  • as a democratic nation its probably a bad idea to allow a small number of businesses to control content distribution. Apps should be regulated based on their actions and practices, not national origin.

disinformation does not become a good thing when produced domestically.

  • It takes a particular kind of brain rot to believe that people who don’t live in america, and don’t do the majority of their business in america, care more about influencing the american people than those who live in america and do the majority of their business in america.

The ban is for the interests of politicians who want to stop the discorse happening on tiktok, and tech companies who want to run a shortform video site and have been unsuccessful in creating their own.

If tiktok is doing what they are accused of, reasonable legislation would ban that practice. When the bill is written to try and let google or facebook buy a successful implementation of shortform video, you know you have an entirely corrupt government.

  • The settling of the “new world” is one of the few times in history that intentional spelling reforms actually took.

Noah Webster published a dictionary with his preferred spellings, and because those dictionaries that disagreed were an ocean away, we spell things with less vowels and also we sometimes put our E’s and R’s in a different order.

  • 71 million in a country of 262 million adults. 27% voted for fascism. 74 million voted for trump in 2020. This wasn’t a shift towards fascism, but the opposition party utterly failing to win voters.

The country has never been majority rule. Every modern election has split the country in thirds, about a third votes one way, a third votes the other and a third choses not to vote.

Over 70% of voting aged americans did not vote for trump.

    edit: spelling correction.

I think the diverging diamond interchange is terrible. Because of the crossover, traffic can only cross the interchange in one direction at a time, so most of the traffic in the interchange is not moving most of the time.

A pair of roundabouts connected to on ramps eliminates the danger of left turns without stopping the majority of traffic most of the time.

A massive overbuilt interchange that cannot function without traffic lights is the opposite of elegant.
