Apparently 4chan was running of a FreeBSD version from 2019, according to the hacker’s shell screenshots. Not difficult at that point, your site is basically just a big, wide-open target if you don’t update regularly.

The hacker was from a separate board called “soyjak party” which is apparently an offshoot of the /qa/ board from 4chan that was used only a couple of times by the administrators for Q&A, and then left to fester for years until it eventually got removed.

It could have been anyone else though. The actual hack occurred through a malicious PDF upload, which worked because the site owners hadn’t updated their FreeBSD version since 2019.

Starting a war with Iran right after these tarrifs would definitely deliver the coup de grâce to the global economy.

All I can think when I see that sign is:
