I’m a senior BA working on a project to replace some outdated software with a new booking management and payment system. One of our minor stakeholders is an overly eager tech bro who insists on bringing up AI in every meeting, he’s gone as far as writing up and sending proposals to myself and project leads.
We all just roll our eyes when a new email arrives. Especially when there’s almost no significant detail in these proposals, it’s all conjecture based of what he’s read online…on tech bro websites.
Oh and the best part, this guy has no experience in system development or design or anything AI related. He doesn’t even work in IT. But he researchs AI in his spare time and uses it as a side hustle…
No new technology ever starts cheap so I would expect to see reductions in carbon use with time.
There is also the added benefit of land not being used for cattle being regenerated. Looking at the cattle ranches in my state, a quick (very rough) calculation puts that combined size around 200,000km², or the size of Kyrgyzstan. If half of that was reclaimed thanks to ranches being closed, that would pay a huge benefit.
I wonder if benefits like these are calculated into the carbon footprint.

I hear that storing sensitive government documents in bathrooms is totally cool and not prosecutable. So he could just do that.
There’s no way to block 100% but if they went full “fire wall of America”, they could block enough to the 80% of people who don’t know how to use a vpn, it would look like they’re doing something.
And then you get the added bonus of blocking all those nasty foreign websites talking about freedom, democracy, equal rights and more!
Huh. Well Mars is out thanks to Elon. So I guess I’ll see you on Titan or Europa. Both are kinda toxic yet still less toxic than Trump.

This is exactly the same at the dot.com boom and bust. After the crash the internet didn’t go anywhere, and look at where we are now. The same will (unfortunately) happen with AI.
