In northern Europe I think it’s basically the same with the lutheran state churches sort of being analogous to a more down to earth catholicism including the troubled past (and to some degree present although I think they are usually more progressive than the catholics) with the imported US lay/“free” churches having more wild beliefs and outrageous xenophobia
I remember when christians in this country were like no to abortions, queer people and biotech but at least were midly positive to helping refugees and against eugenics.
