Take any concept, put it on a spectrum and name both ends, and people will never stop using it as their entire identity. Be just as useful as deciding if we are all gryfindor or slytherin.
Log scales will always be cool AF.
His real wealth, the actual engine of it is paypal. Everything on top of that is money market manipulation.
I have honestly never even considered those two lines exist next to eachother and effect eachothers meaning. It has always just been the words associated with the melody.
I would like to believe all the lessons I learned doing wreckless could have been learned elsehow, but also it tamed me out by the time I was 14. I could tell a lot of the kids around me at that age were acting out as a result of their newfound freedom, the kinda freedom and lack of supervision I had had for ten years at that point. I had my fill already and became a relatively calm and subdued teen. But only because I had learned my lessons through pain.
When I see those stupid little lines coming off things, I usually assume AI made it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why put data centers in space?English
7·2 days agoNo, in the same sense that “putting a data center in space” doesn’t make any sense either. If they had decided to put high speed rail above ground in 2013, it could have been done and dusted by now. It could extend the whole coast of California by now. Digging that shit underground? They would be lucky to have 100 miles done. Its completely ignorant of the context, costs and impact associated with its design decisions, something that has become a pattern in the companies this particular manchild collects like playtoys.
Ever wonder why these guys never touch paypal? Because its their perfect cash cow. Its their credit card company double skim off the top scam. If they ran paypal like they ran the any of their other companies or the government, they would destroy it. They know that they are incouragable fuckups incapable of bettering society. Its why they go about scheming to have control of it instead. I’m convinced hyperloop was never anything more than a sales pitch to derail any real progress on a genuine public asset that would cause fewer electric cars to be sold.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why put data centers in space?English
7·2 days agoIm specifically referencing hyperloop. Of course there are some contexts (usually dense urban ones) where trains in tunnels make sense, just like there are some contexts where putting data infrastructure in space makes sense.

615·2 days agoWhy put trains underground? The question isn’t of practicality, but if the idea would sound cool to a 10 year old.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•“There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray BradburyEnglish
7·7 days agoIn a lot of ways I think the climate catastrophe got ignored for so long because of the impending fear of immediate nuclear annihilation. The specific anxiety Bradbury is writing about here though is about the death/collapse of humanity which is an anxiety that has permeated culture and society since its institution. What he didn’t see coming is that it would probably be a much slower and more inevitable collapse due to climate change. In both cases the fire still represents the same thing though, change, entropy, chaos or whatever you want to call it. The death of humanity is as inevitable as the death of an individual. What makes the inclusion of the poem by Teasdale so good is that she was capable of seeing the beauty in a world that never stops changing, one that would inevitably throw off the shackles of whatever order we may try to impose.
