Quite easy to understand, actually. No notes. 10/10 depiction of real life, except… Yknow…with chameleons

Comparing to tolkein is just unfair.
That man has the worldbuilding capabilities second only to Eru. Even Aule doesn’t hold a silmaril to Tolkein’s creativity.
The man legitimately never stopped thinking about middle earth. And I am all the more glad for it, since now I have maps aplenty, intertwining stories, and the guidebook to end all guidebooks for fantasy worldbuilding.
Comparing that to someone who knocked out a book in a few years seems unfair.
I once worked with 6 Tylers.
Two started working day 1 when the store opened, one got hired around 6 months later, one transferred from another store, one was a manager that came in for training, and the last one was technically his middle name, but he was named after his POS father and decided to go by Tyler.
We had Tyler, Big Tyler (smallest of them), Little Tyler (normal sized), Golf Tyler (absolutely hated golf), Tyler Tyler, and Manager Tyler (two guesses which one that was)
I swear, management made schedules to keep them from being there at the same time. Personally I always thought it was funny when one tyler had to take a customer to another tyler. The exchange usually went something like “well I’m gonna hand you off to Tyler here, my name was Tyler it’s been a pleasure” or something along those lines. They always tried to use their names as much as possible.

15·2 days agoPffft with the recrystalization capabilities of 24c tech, that question is just an unfair comparison for older ships anyway. The Connie Enterprise wouldn’t be able to travel nearly as far even if both ships travelled at 1x light speed. Lattice structure is only part of the equation.
In this 14-part video series I will be breaking down the hard science of dilithium in star trek…

8·2 days agoQuark would be much happier if he just accepted himself for what he really is: a hopeless romantic, good-natured person who wants to help people. Whenever he does, he comes out all the better for it.
His ultra-capitalism, attempts at thievery, and conniving ways always bites him in the ass.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What stratgies do you have for dealing with people who "live in your head rent free"?
3·2 days agoMiles Edward O’Brien lives rent free in my head. As he should in everyone’s. He’s the most important person in starfleet history.
For more modern and corporal people, I just try to avoid things that make me think about a person, or minimize contact as much as possible. To varying degrees of success… Eventually they’ll fade.
Unlike O’Brien.
Courtney (she/her/they) @lemmy.blahaj.zonetointerestingasfuck@lemmy.world•A cabin in North Cascades National Park wrapped in a protective foil to prevent it burning down from a forest fire.
2·2 days agoSparks and embers. And whether it’s aluminum, aluminized structure wrapping, insulation, or mylar, it’ll reflect the heat away from the side of the cabin for a lot longer than no covering. Toss in sprinklers, and clearing of bushes and other scrub nearby, and I’d say this cabin stands a far better chance of survival than it does without.
It’s not going to withstand a 24 hour firestorm directly over it, but I’d rather spend $3k trying to save everything than lose it all because I didn’t try.

6·3 days agoI’m not jealous AT ALL. NOT ONE BIT.
That’s awesome!
I hope I can get it done before the end of the year when I’ll be losing insurance, but fingers crossed!
Suggestion: use a heating pad on your lower back while reclining afterwards, the heat helps relax all the muscles in your lower body. I fully plan on getting some edibles to eat afterwards.
Never compare your everyday with someone else’s claimed high points. Comparison is the thief of joy.
I was definitely happy while using my propane forge. Can confirm.

11·4 days agoI’ve needed a bridge guy twice in my life.
Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that its happened twice.
One way or another, you won’t have to worry about it soon.
I’ve seen some of it.
I’ve also seen a LOT of shows with better actors, none of whom were shoved into a ton of movie roles in a short period of time the same way.
I actually used to ride my bike to the closest stop when I lived further away from town.
Locked it up somehwre close, come back and ride it home.
Nowadays my bikes are a little more expensive so I don’t like to lock them where I can’t see them all day, but I’m fairly sure it will still be there when I come back.
The one time it DID get stolen, it was specifically because I forgot my lock that day. I called a friend, we drove around town for a bit and I spotted some guy on it, called the cops and told them I’m about to confront the guy who stole my bike and if they care to show up we’re at the park. (don’t bother saying you want them to intervene, tell them you are confronting someone and they’ll show up thinking maybe someone is about to get shot) and when the guy tried to say he bought the bike heads ago, I told the cop I’m taking the handlebars off to prove something. Took them off with the toolkit I keep in my bag, and pulled out a piece of paper with my name, partial address, and phone number on it. The guy started sprinting the second he realized I have proof it’s mine. I also pulled out my New Bike Day photo of it but the paper with my details inside the frame is a lot harder to argue against.

Games@lemmy.world•Day 748 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playingEnglish
3·4 days agoI downloaded a mod that adds in some tracked vehicles from the 80s, and while the mod needs a little work for spawns (random houses should not have apcs and tanks lol) I did manage to find a cargo apc at one of the military checkpoints, and have been loading it up with a ton of mechanics stuff and things to grow food. I still have a few days before the water and power start going out, but I’m hoping to find some generators while I’m out. I definitely need to start grabbing every container I can for gas and make my way to some of the gas stations.
I modified the sandbox a bit for this run, because I’m tired of apocalypse games deciding that there’s no gas anywhere the day the apocalypse starts. Sorry but people don’t just leave cars in their garages with no gas in them. Nobody lets their car run out of gas intentionally. Gas stations aren’t constantly at risk of being completely empty. I used to live near a gas station in the middle of nowhere. The kind of place that Still had 80s style pumps in the 00s. I woke up every morning the gas truck drove by and had to shimmy to get the trailer in the right spot. They got filled every other week, sometimes longer.
So I decided for this run, cars almost always have gas, with the occasional completely empty tank. Stations got set between “low” and whatever the one right below full is, with a 12% chance of the station being completely empty. (assuming I understand the spawning stuff for it anyway) I still have to siphon gas from multiple cars to fill one tank of gas completely, but it feels more realistic than “150 cars and only one even had an ounce of gas” that I seemed to be getting before.
Also the number of cars seems very low, I don’t remember much of the 90s but I know people had tons of cars still…
Regardless, it’s a great game whether you play vanilla or modded.
I really enjoy the “6 months later” type. For those I like to role-play as someone who’s been stuck in one place for awhile and comes out to find the world is gone.
I think he’d make a good spider man, but it really is hard to nail down that Peter Parker quality and still be a good spider man. Toby was the one I think hit the nail on the head. Nerdy, not a loner type but just not necessarily widely accepted socially, awkward.
Maybe I just haven’t seen TG in enough stuff, but I think he’d be a good pick.
If I had money and a time machine, I’d go back and have them do a movie with Toby as Parker, and Topher as spider man. Have them train for a few months so that have more similar bodies to make it more convincing.

They’ll never understand that.
They’ll assume the poor sales have to do with the genre, the subject matter, millennials killing the gaming industry, literally ANYTHING but the actual reason their supposed customers keep yelling about.
