Children. Children don’t look. When I was very young I got stuck in a toilet in the middle of the night because my mom’s boyfriend left the seat up. No one heard my cries for help. I was stuck for a while.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Could I theoretically grind up one of those pink salt lamps and use it to season my food?
21·3 days agoI wouldn’t. While yes, it is technically salt, it isn’t food grade. You could have a safe to eat lamp OR a lamp contaminated with toxins or heavy metals or radiation. And that’s before whatever processes may have been done during manufacturing to turn it into a lamp. Not to mention if it’s been sitting out it’ll be covered in dirt and dust which is also not great in food (not dangerous, but not enjoyable either).

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Amazon thought it would be a good idea to not include subtitles in a film made entirely with sign language.English
15·5 days agoI get a special kind of mad when I watch a foreign film in its original language. Turn on that language’s subtitles and the subtitles don’t match what’s being verbally said because apparently the subs have been translated into English then back into the original language so nothing matches and everything sucks. Or worse when they’ve translated some idiom for American audiences and have translated that idiom back so what’s being said makes zero sense.
Sometimes it’s not because of trauma or being raised by narcissists. Sometimes it’s because you’re neurodivergent and asking for/accepting help lands you in a minefield of social rules, obligations, AND SMALL TALK that require a lot of excess work, time, and goddamn mental energy to navigate when all you wanted to do was move a stupid couch and go back to your day.
OR you could spend five quiet minutes to do it alone with a clever work around that involves none of that garbage.

12·7 days agoI don’t miss network administration. The long drag out conversations with clients to convince them that basic security was necessary while dodging the “it’s fine we’ve always done it this way” and “we don’t want to memorize new passwords” hot spots.

Ya’ll if you don’t want to serve just tell the court you know what jury nullification is and ask to be dismissed. No need for biological warfare.
In all my years this might be the most dumb block list I have ever seen. A sample:

memes@lemmy.world•The mistake was admitting to being in IT for this very reason
2·15 days agoYeah but I like that stuff. It gives me options so I have a more space to work around unruly printers. I can’t tell you how many times an outdated generic driver from the dark ages was the fix I needed. Especially helpful when working with clients using proprietary software that doesn’t play well with others.
You should be asking who his publicist is. Whoever they are, they are very good at what they do. The only reason we all figured out Elon is a trash fire nazi is either he stopped listening to the publicist or he fired them and went rogue.

memes@lemmy.world•The mistake was admitting to being in IT for this very reason
4·17 days agoEh I never minded. I preferred printer problems. Fixing the default printing source made me cool. Downloading a driver or pointing a user to the right network printer made me a hero. Replacing a roller or a fuser so the printer stopped jamming elevated me to legendary. Much more relaxing then fixing someone’s janky SQL “formula” because their “excel is broken.”
Like the Town Musicians of Bremen? Just stack them up?
Just ask them to hand write a sentence of your choosing on a piece of paper and put it in the photo. Even if AI manages to produce a “handwritten” sentence it’ll likely look too perfect and stock.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•this absolute bullshit from redditEnglish
4·18 days agoI used to hit reddit forums for internet queries because they are usually at the top of search engines. Now I blow right past them to the next in theme answers (steam for gaming for example) because the join us we are a cult splash screen is annoying. Anyone that is going to create a reddit account/use the app ALREADY IS. The enshittification is so painfully bad.

9·21 days agoYour heart’s in the right place, I appreciate that, but it’s more dangerous during emergency work like this to pass out or make a stupid mistake from skipping a meal. Infection is treatable, death is not. It’s not practical or logistically possible to simply evacuate every time someone needs to eat either. In situations like this they are likely running long shifts with teams swapping out at set intervals. Trust that these are working professionals that have been trained in how to keep themselves safe.

13·24 days agoThis wouldn’t impart any useful information in a world where rapist pedophiles get time served and protesters get a life sentence for being adjacent to another crime handing out zines.

I rarely use AI. When I do have to use it for something I end up doing extra work because I always have to check and correct it’s output seeing as every one of them is a lying liar who lies.
