  • I’m so glad people who know me have started to respond to my “what?” With just nothing.

Because it usually only takes 30 seconds or so to catch my brain up, but if I just wait that 30, I’m being rude…

They could repeat as many times as they want in that span and I won’t get it, and the repetition actually makes it harder to process for me, so them just doing nothing is the perfect ideal. If I repeat my question after letting it process, they know to repeat what they said, but the first one is usually pointless filler to keep from being seen as disengaged, which makes one seem disengaged anyway.

  • Wisconsin doesn’t have party registration at all and hasn’t for a while (though it did when I first registered, and it cant be undone or changed now, leading to the appearance that we just have a huge population of independent voters (about 1/3 at this point), and no other changes in the last 20-ish years… so if it only includes people who are registered, it misses a lot of important data. Idk about other states, I think there’s at least one other that doesn’t do party registration, but a lot of people opt to be independent if given the opportunity because they lean left and dems kinda don’t.

So I think that interpretation is probably accurate.

  • Thats a super fair stance.

Consider looking into something like freetube (pc, there might also be apps for android that do the same, I don’t know) Its logged in as an anonymous account so you can subscribe to stuff, but you can go into the settings and disable all the distractions, which is what they call everything thats not videos :) All I ever see is stuff from my subscribed channels, and if I go into the individual channels, the only thing that remains is the main videos feed, everything else (about, shorts, community, etc.) is disabled. I also have sponsor block enabled to auto-skip all promotional content including self-promo.

The algorithm is basically non-existent on freetube, in that your recommendations feed on the side of the video player is going to be mostly the same channel you are watching now, not just random shit. Maybe a few things thrown in that are closely related -like if they work with another channel a lot that other channel might come up- maybe some weird bug videos that aren’t related at all, but those are all semi-sciency so that could be from my own watching, idk, I think the dev included some basic channels for the main feed so it wasn’t empty, they don’t really change and I’ve had other people mention seeing the exact same videos in their feed, years apart. I haven’t seen much, if any, questionable or undesirable content without explicitly searching for it, though.

I find the distraction-free mode of using it to be very much like back in the day when you had to know what you wanted because there was no algorithm. Its not addictive or changing my opinions, imo, because I genuinely struggle to find new channels, what with no algorithm shoving shit down my throat, so I get what I’m looking for and nothing else. I check it a couple times a month, quickly run out of new content, get bored, and go do something else. Perhaps thats a workable option for you, as well :)

  • Actually, depending what the flies actually do inside that might indeed be relevant.

I live in the Midwest and I get these flies called cluster flies. They usually only come in in the fall when looking for somewhere warm to overwinter, but I’ve had them other times as well.

They aren’t like houseflies in that they wont really reproduce inside the house, they mostly hang out near windows. I wait for a lot of them to build up on the screen, close the window most of the way, crack the screen open a bit (storm window) and go outside to open the rest of the way.

But once everything is closed up for the year, any left behind just die.

If those are what you’ve got, you probably wont be able to stop them getting in without completely ruining the insulation and humidity profile of your place, especially if its an older place which aren’t neatly as airtight as newer ones. They will get in through any ducts going outside, cracks under your siding that aren’t sealed, you name it.

Best you can do is get rid of them when you get them.

  • If you are in a position to be impacted by my “easier for me, harder for you” mentality, you by default aren’t the sort thats struggling in life.

It targets those in some sort of power, those who wish to restrict my life for mo good reason. The sort of people who (think they) can make rules to govern my life.

I challenge you to come up with a time where finding the loopholes makes things worse for people who are also living under the same rules.

  • The second half of this post is how I got through highschool. And college. And the military. “I didn’t see anything about it in the handbook/UCMJ” was my motto. And I already realized hard work didn’t pay off, cuz I watched my siblings do that.

There are two ways to get through life. You can conform, which is hard for you but easy for everyone else, or you can find and exploit every loophole you can which is hard for you AND hard for everyone else. I’m not one to make things easy for other people unless its also easier for me, so…

  • I find my days to be much better overall when I don’t spend a lot of time online over an extended period. I’m more productive, more creative, and less anxious. I still find out all the impactful stuff, anyway.

Its not like knowing the bad news as it happens helps me in any way, genuinely, so why bother wasting all my bandwidth on it?

My dumb monkey brain is meant to tell five kinds of poisonous berries from the one edible kind. What does it do with an international pedophile ring, climate collapse, and rising inequality? Shuts down is what it does.
