One of the issues here is that being a Chinese paper in any field is still the most correlated with the paper being faked in some way. So while china is producing a lot of science and good science its also the world leader in garbage fake science too and it needs to get a handle on the problem.
When fake news as a concept appeared a bit over a decade ago it was all about the traditional media and the lies and narratives they formed in their articles. That same media tried to spin it as about the satire sites like newstrump and most recently their entire spin has been about social media being the cause. I think social media has caught more because its clear to see that some users are spreading a lot of misinformation and you can see others falling into the trap but really what legitimises it all is what the media does and does not platform.
The two trailers put out on the Star Trek Youtube channel definitely didn’t calm my concerns about this movie!
There is no need, nor is it Star Trek, to have a dark evil underbelly that does all the real work. The true beauty of Star Trek is it makes us reflect on how far away we are from a utopian future version of society. Its an optimistic picture of the future, its the essence of what Star Trek is about.
The elites have been doing very well since 2010. They froze wage increases and broke the long standing history of them raising with inflation and pocketed an enormous amount of extra profit as a result. Most don’t benefit from GDP growth now, they just get poorer due to inflation further eroding their stagnate wages. GDP hasn’t been a measure that matters to the average person in 14 years.

Such significant commitments on a national level with international treaties should I think be carried by more than a simple majority. Its not a simple choice and without decent will behind it there is every chance it doesn’t last or causes enormous strife within the populace. But the vote is advisory and fundamentally will probably be based on the majority regardless so its now up to government to decide if its enough to move forward.

There is no immediate demand to stop or anything so extreme, they are largely what the UK has already agreed to do but is failing to achieve.
Peaceful protests have not worked, disruptive protests have been widely villified and the protestors jailed for very long sentences. If you are facing 2-3 years for holding up a banner or throwing some paint seems like criminal damage of a fossil fuel facility isn’t likely to net more years. As many have said in the past governments ignore peaceful protests at their peril, because once its clear that doesn’t work they become not peaceful.
Then when you age out and never call them they wonder why it is you don’t.
We knew this was coming, we knew if we didn’t stop pumping CO2 into our atmosphere we would have to mitigate a lot of the damage at much greater cost and yet here we having increased the rate at which we increase CO2 into the atmosphere to now a whopping 3.3 ppm annually and we have spent nothing on mitigation. Honestly it feels like our governments just chose we were all going to die and were fine with it.

We don’t actually need new laws. There are already existing mechanisms for holding the directors of companies criminally responsible for damage and death they cause. Its not new laws we need its the existing ones enforced and done so not just against the water companies but any company that is harming the environment and people or committing other criminal acts.
People have been repeatedly told not to go near this group. Its the age old story where “modern man” meets indigenous tribe and kills a bunch of them with disease and they now consider us at war. We need to leave these people alone.
Its likely too early (For Wikipedia) just because the ICJ hasn’t made a ruling. The genocide however is pretty plain to see and has been all year. Wikipedia has always done weird and often inconsistent things around the evidence allowed and sufficient to support statements in its articles so its not a new issue.

So far we have had between 4 and 6 waves a year, each of which is from a different variant. A variant breaks out and within 2 months its infected almost everyone at which point it dies down to become part of the background infections and a new variant takes over. There just isn’t enough time to make a vaccine and roll it out to deal with any of that problem. The vaccines that are getting rolled out now are for variant that disappeared 6 months ago. Nothing we do is going to be very effective against this until the vaccines are a lot more effective against potential future variants or we drastically reduce the number of hosts it gets to replicate in.
Covid happily spreads outside. A number of the early pandemic super spreader events were outside like football matches. There was a confirmed transmission in Japan over 80metres from an infected jogger to a group standing quite far away so we know it’s airborne and highly contagious even outside. Outside can be quite acidic due to pollution and this helps the virus survive as do particles in the air so there is a balance between the density indoors verses degradation conditions, it’s a complex picture in the research.
Basic rule, Covid spreads outside since it’s airborne and it can persist in the air for at least an hour. UV light can degrade it faster but it also only takes 7 virons to infect someone and we breath out 1000 with each breath.
So many of the GPUs have been crippled for the purposes of gaming and there is zero incentive for Nvidia to produce drivers for those cards to do anything else. Alas they will just end up in landfill.
