From experience trying to get people to try the Threadiverse, mentioning defederation instantly kills the small interest people might have in the platform as it’s “too hard to understand”.

Location can matter for people who want to use an instance from their country. That post was also written during the “Boycott USA” era from a while ago, when people wanted to use websites managed close to where they lived.

Quick question: did you set up any encryption to prevent Hetzner from seeing your photos? That’s usually the topic that keeps coming up when people say they prefer to self-host Immich on their own hardware
