In the US the tax payer subsidizes almost all drug research. Between 2010 and 2019 the NIH spent $184 Billion on all but 2 drugs approved by the FDA.

It worked out to about $1.5 Billion for each R&D product with a novel target and about $600 mill for each R&D product with multiple targets.

Why should companies own the whole IP or perhaps why should they have any ownership if most of the funding is from the public?

Dual boot with Windows is terrible because of how fastboot messes with the drive partitions. If you want to dual boot you will have to turn off Windows fastboot.

Why can’t the government take care of it’s people instead of making them rely on private insurance? It’s the government. They should be doing things like taking care of their citizens during times of crisis.

If you want to annoy them, tell them you just take snapshots as your backup strategy.

I mean sure you could be sync’ing your snapshots elsewhere as a real backup strategy but you don’t need to tell them that.

I’ve never played DND so I don’t know if this is something you could pull off or anything but I’d probably be like

“I snort the fine pile of dust” and then, I don’t know, there’s some latent personality or intention there, so now we have to alternate playing my character between turns/minutes or something. It’d probably make for some great RP moments, especially if each personality couldn’t remember very well what the other was doing previously. Maybe the class and abilities change with each person, which makes arming up appropriately interesting or a pain depending on how we handle it I suppose.

It isn’t going to be one or the other (if they don’t offer a 401k, then you can use IRAs), unless you just make a bad choice. An employer can contribute to a 401k and also provide a pension (mine used to but I’ve been around long enough that I get both the pension and 401k with matching) but if I had a choice, I could pick a pension for example but also put money into an IRA for retirement that would normally go to a 401k.

If you absolutely had to pick one, it isn’t going to be the same answer for everyone. Amounts, what you’re able to contribute, matching, risks and tax situations are going to vary from person to person and their employer.

As far as controlling your money, some 401k’s allow some extra control, some don’t but most have a middle ground except for their company stock which you can usually directly buy. If you’re 401k allows general different ‘markets’ and/or ‘lifecycle’ buckets (they get more conservative on investment risk the closer you get to your retirement age) is, at the end of the day, all controlled by a broker and they are making the actual decision as to what to invest and how. Some plans may allow you to invest into individual stocks through the 401k’s brokerage though.

At the end of the day though, if all you had was a pension offered which you aren’t going to be contributing your income to, then you should invest in some sort of retirement plan yourself, be it an IRA, money market, bonds, CDs or whatever.

I think the issue is that you look like you are talking about health insurance in the US. There is basically a zero percent change the person you are responding to is talking about insurance from any plan in the US.

They can spend as much time as they want with the patient. The insurance simply caps how much is billable.

Though in context of the previous paragraph seems to imply that this was an opinion that the wikipedia article came to simply because there was a previous work that argued specifically for ‘or’ in place of ‘our’ but again, it appears to simply be their opinion based on an assumption.

I had brought in a disk from another old PC of mine that was an NTFS formatted drive but no Windows on it. It worked OK for games. It seemed to work a lot better than what people complained about. I wonder if it was because there was no boot partition or any oddness with how NTFS works with hibernation on system partitions.

Permissions weren’t an issue because I just mounted the NTFS partitions with the user option.

I did eventually copy it over to a btrfs partition though for dedupe and snapshots like everything else.

Nah, Webster really did drop the ‘u’ and changed a lot of spelling. He also learned a lot of languages since back then there were many, many different languages/dialects in America at the time and he wanted to make it easier as he changed spellings, such as swapping ‘re’ to ‘er’ for phonetics. There was also a lot of anti-British sentiment at the time of course which certainly would have motivated acceptance.

Webster is definitely also credited for this in histories and not newspapers outside of anecdotes.
