  • It’ll affect it, but it won’t stop it. This is a good question to bring up though.

I design medical devices. IP is incredibly important in this process to protect our R&D investment in the current system. If IP didn’t exist, we’d protect that through other means like obfuscation of function.

Also if IP didn’t exist, I could design devices that are so much better at healing people. So much of what I do is restricted because someone else has 30 years left on what they patented.

R&D is expensive. Just because you see what someone else did, doesn’t mean you can easily replicate it.

In short: if your goal is pure profit, yeah removing IP probably hurts this a little. If your goal is producing the best product, then get rid of it.

I think the best solution would be a much shorter exclusionary period for patents.

Where to draw the line, when it comes down to it, is a very personal decision and depends on a lot of different circumstances. I think we can all agree that the furthest we can move away from animal exploitation is the “best”, but that isn’t always feasible.

It’s a lot like recycling and reducing waste. We don’t need a few people doing it perfectly, we need everyone doing it imperfectly. Just doing it better than now. Any degree you move toward the ideal is worth it, and not making it all the way should not be shameful.

  • Brushing the cats regularly is the first step - this removes loose fur that will otherwise fall out on other surfaces. Most cats love being brushed, and id say doing it a every week at a minimum will help.

Other than brushing, having the right type of vacuum can make a big difference.

Are you in the southern hemisphere? Our cats shed a lot more in the summer vs winter. Spring is especially bad, as they are getting rid of their winter coat.

Thank you for taking the time to make sure you’re taking the best care of them! They have a good home with you.
