The title seems pretty dumb if you think about it. It’s like saying people are more hungry when they can’t afford food. If you can’t run from climate change then obviously it’s hitting you harder.

Neither of those can be acquired at the DMV. It actually takes a long time to get a passport because they have to do a lot of checks. In certain cases you can pay to speed up the process but I doubt that’d be possible if people needed it to vote. Too many people in too short a window.

Why would I pay the same to get less?

No, and no. It is typically more convenient to pay to file taxes though. These companies hand hold you through the process and often have some protection for you if you get audited.

That said, this still means the government needs to make things easier for everyone. You shouldn’t feel like you need help to just file a standard tax return if all you do is have a regular job, no investments, and no deductions. Which is something like half of the US.

At least polys can’t be used in court. I’d imagine it wouldn’t be too difficult for a lawyer to get things tossed if their only rationale was a poly test.

There’s barely any enforcement of traffic laws, at least where I live. It’s amazing how many people break the law in dangerous ways every day. And I’m not including speeding in this assessment.
