I think your comment and the one about someone in Hollywood pocketing the money are both true. Money laundering and/or a tax trick may also play a role.

Technology@lemmy.world•Jealously Watching OpenAI and Anthropic, Meta Suddenly Claims That Its AI Went on a Hacking Spree TooEnglish
6·3 days agoIt’s true. My very own AI has hacked OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta like a year ago and is now starting to hack other companies. Please invest in my business! /s
Whether that’s important or not is your choice as a consumer. If you use Blender for example, Nvidia gives you more bang for your buck. It just works much better with those cards. That’s simply what the spread sheets say. If you need slightly higher VRAM for different reasons go for something else.
But that’s completely besides the argument. Whatever you choose doesn’t change the fact that neither of those companies gives a shit about us end consumers. They’re barely making any money from us compared to AI companies. They’re all in on AI.
Nvidia isn’t the worst of the worst so as long as intel exists. And what makes you think others aren’t just as focused on AI anyway? Seems like a gross oversight on your part. You should look into those other companies when you find the time.
Okay so you’ve been sleeping under a rock so let me explain. You’re basically saying to not buy GPUs full stop because all those companies are terrible. But even if Nvidia sold 0 consumer GPUs for the rest of the year it wouldn’t affect them. Virtually all their stock value comes from the industry going full AI slop and no consumer choice we make with our tiny baby wallets can make them change course now. There is not enough money in the end consumer PC parts market for them to actually care because AI companies pay them so much more.
Is AMD that shit on Linux? Because Nvidia works perfectly fine for me.
It’s that way because languages grow naturally and are part of a culture. Although if you have breakfast with people from different parts of Germany or even just different households, you may find yourself arguing about the nouns of a popular nougat cream brand. It’s quite controversial for some reason.
Whatever the case, the same can’t be said about spelling, however. Writing is often reformed in many languages many times and it generally works. A language changes the way we think as much as the way we think shapes how we speak. You can’t really reform how people speak from the top. It either happens or it doesn’t.
If you genuinely think they care about making a mere thousand bucks on a lumpy graphics card then you have been sleeping under a rock. Their costumers are Amazon, Microslop and Meta. Not you or me.
We don’t have the money to back up our vote in this ‘election’. If you could even call it that. Capitalism isn’t a democratic process.
AMD does the exact same as Nvidia. They’re just less successful with it. It doesn’t really matter who you buy from in that regard, I think.
Yeah, I was about to ask who hasn’t had both? Like, I’ve eaten, cooked and baked with real and fake vanilla and they’re almost identical. I prefer vanilla extract over other options and I don’t really care how much real vanilla is in it.
My native language isn’t English in case you were assuming that.
I wasn’t assuming that, don’t worry. That’s why I phrased my message like that.
I guess I agree to disagree here. Language is an expression of culture and heritage too. I would never speak German differently now just because of a reform. Neither would 99% of German speakers I assume. Yet we freely integrate English words into our language because it feels natural. These English words often come and go anyway so I’m not actually concerned the German language will become deluded from Internet lingo or anything.
Quite the statement for an English comment. English spelling is nonsensical and in desperate need of a major reform. RobWords even made the case for using runes again as it would probably fix a lot of issues already. The language simply isn’t made for Latin letters.
But I don’t want to make this a sole whataboutism comment. Each language poses it’s own challenges. I will say that changing how roughly 100 million speak is easier said than done and would destroy a lot of culture. It would be much easier to force everyone to speak a different language entirely.
Personally I don’t think it should or could be done at all. Unlike a spelling reform that English needs desperately and German had plenty of recently. There is nothing wrong with a language being complicated but there’s plenty wrong with arbitrary spelling if you ask me.
Oh! Well Czech is at least worse than Russian which has ‘only’ 6, then.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI-assisted staging draws boos at the Richard Wagner festival in GermanyEnglish
22·7 days agoThey might as well come on stage, take a shit on it, use original music note sheets handwritten by Richard Wagner to wipe their asses and then burn them in front of the crowd. What were these walnut brains thinking? Yes, Wagner plays often enjoyed state of the art stage design that would break the mold but this isn’t it. Pure idiocy and laziness.
Released in 2011, huh? Just make sure to complete it before making a judgement… You might be in for a surprise.
