I always remembered TNG as being very stiff. But I’ve been rewatching several episodes with a friend lately, and I was surprised how many subtle jokes are in there.
They basically just gave two thirds of the cast Spock’s sense of humor.
I had the same experience when I rewatched it a few years ago. I realized that I missed a lot of wink and nod jokes the first time around.
Worf roasting Keyleyr in their first episode is epic.
