I’m curious, because I don’t really talk to people face-to-face much anymore, and certainly not to anyone who would say this. Do people say “AF” or do they say “as fuck”, when speaking out loud?

I hear both. Depends on the person and then often depend on the location. Like watching an elementary school play they would probably say AF. But later hanging out they might just say as fuck.

I’m an older person so I could be wrong, but it seems allusions to cussing is now more regularly accepted as long as it isn’t the cuss word itself.

This is sort of how it used to be with “bullshit” and “BS”. The shortened term lets you know what they think without actually uttering the cuss word. Same with “Pissed off” becoming “PO’d” or “Put Out.” The abbreviation was viewed as more socially acceptable, at least when I was growing up.

My go-to example for the modern era is from The Amazing World of Gumball, in which “what the what” is a common phrase used in the show and an obvious replacement for “what the fuck.”

Thus I think @oxideseven@lemmy.ca has it right that younger people probably say “AF” a lot to get away with not actually saying the curse word itself.

This is a panel-by-panel ripoff of an older comic strip whose only difference is the baby saying “death to the bourgeoisie”.

We need to go back to this definition of “woke”! Not whatever Faux News thinks it means (“anti-woke” is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard).
