I don’t know the context for this specific movie or what they mean by AI assisted or whatever, but I have heard that nowadays, even if artists don’t use AI to directly create art, they still use it behind the scenes to do things like compose scenes.
Even if the claim is “no AI”, individual artists will still secretly use it to save time or money. Everything in the graphic art world is now AI assisted and we can’t get away from it. 😞
Everyone without industry experience is up on their high horse. The VFX industry used AI loooong before we started calling it that. Hell, Photoshop had Content Aware Fill in 2010! That’s machine learning, AKA “AI”
People on the internet are too ignorant for nuance. If you suddenly have a problem with morph cuts, I can’t take you seriously
Don’t be a fool. Most people mean generative AI when they say AI. Nobody thinks of the 500 other things stacks of matrices and a pile of linear algebra can do, because they don’t understand it.
No, the fill in algorithms are not generative AI (at least the ones back in 2010).
You’re right. Nobody thinks of any other application when they trash talk “AI” as a concept. That’s kind of my point?? There is a complete lack of nuance around the whole topic.
There is such a huge difference between a VFX artist using generative AI to create a background texture vs a whole scene yet it pretty much all of it gets lost in reporting. Any use of machine learning makes you irredeemable in the eyes of the internet warrior.
im an artist and i wouldn’t use gen ai to make a background texture. there’s tons of free textures, and if all else fails i can a) paint it myself or b) go take a photo

I’m an artist and I use photoshop but I’d never use gen ai

So do you work in the blockbuster film industry or is this an unrelated anecdote?
i work in tv animation mostly. i worked on scavengers reign, for example.
