I’m extremely sceptical when anybody adopts the right wing framing of “weaponized migration” that uncritically, even tho the source in general seems less reactionary than i would expect when most of the authors have a background in the finance industry. Something about that article feels really, really wrong.

The framing that it’s the natural order of things that the government should keep people from leaving the country and that it’s an act of aggression when it fails to do so is so weird. Especially when it’s not even that countries citizens.

Also they make it sound as if Morocco just has to open a gate to let the immigrants flood out when this is a highly militarized border with a giant concertina wire tipped fence and armed guards on the Spanish side.

From what I heard, most people swam around the border fence along the coats, because the Supreme Court of Spain had recently made a ruling saying that illegal crossings couldn’t be pushed back at maritime borders under current laws, a loophole that’s now closed.
