Oh yea you’re right, forgot about that.

It has nothing to do with the fact that it was completely mediocre and the protagonist was an insufferable douchebag.

It’s the conspiracy, not the quality of the product. Lol.

Yes, you’re absolutely correct. The bar is also in hell these days because of corporate greed.

Yep…which makes me think that the relative lack of popularity has less to do with the game itself, and more the circumstance surrounding its release. There are much worse games that have much bigger audiences.

Hell, the entire ‘controversy’ section on Wikipedia is basically “yeah, this game was made by Russians”

I also think it’s really easy to assume malice, when the facts state that the vast majority of gamers only buy 1-3 games per year.

Hardcore gamers unfortunately are not the majority, and a Russian Bioshock is definitely aimed at hardcore gamers imo.

Edit: people are also generally easily swayed, saying something is Russian shouldn’t make it bad automatically.

It is, but there also was a lot of malice going around at the time. You know how shortly after the Hamas attacks on Israel, everyone that wasn’t vocally in favor of Israel killing everyone immediately got asked “do you disavow Hamas?” And regardless of answer was viewed with suspicion?

I ran into the same thing in '22/'23, as I am Russian. Even though I don’t support Putin, don’t support the invasion, and haven’t lived in the country for 20 years.

Interacting with Russian media, hell, even speaking to my family led to immediate suspicion. Now that the zeitgeist has moved on, I don’t get that as much.

Edit: in retrospect, I just did the same thing above, right after saying I’m Russian.
