The only objective is to make the McGuffin profitable. Functionality, consumer satisfaction, reliability, repairability, flexibility, etc. aren’t relevant. The rubes will buy what we offer them, or they get nothing.
When the market has no options while people still need to replace old or broken things, people are forced to buy that stuff. Then the market says people want that stuff. They’re controlling the whole thing.
Best way to combat it is buy as little as possible. Which thanks to economic collapse, it is happening organically.

I haven’t bought a new laptop since 2013. I just keep buying parts to repair the one I have.
my phone can be disassembled and repaired. the battery can be replaced.
my car is also from 2013.
