Title: Long-time iOS user considering switch to Android - Need advice on $1000 flagships
Body:
Hey everyone, I’m looking at phones around the $1000 price point and would love some input. I’ve been an iOS user for years but I’m seriously considering making the jump to Android this time.
Here’s what I’m looking at:
iPhone 17 Pro - The safe choice since I’m already in the ecosystem
Samsung Galaxy S25 - Hearing good things about this generation
Pixel 10 Pro - Probably crossing this one off the list due to the stability issues I’ve been reading about (the 911 call failures, overheating problems, etc.)
Nothing Phone - The design looks really cool, but I’m not sure if they have anything in this price range
For those who’ve made the switch from iOS to Android (or vice versa), what would you recommend? Any major gotchas I should know about? And is the Nothing Phone even worth considering as a daily driver at this price point?
Thanks in advance!
I like the customization options on the s25. Including “One Hand Operation +” and “good lock”.
Regarding pixel phones. They are extremely bare bones in terms of software features. Plus the issues you mention like 911 call failures, battery failures, etc are simply unacceptable.
Google droid: I’d suggest adding xiaomi 15T pro to your shortlist.
Degoogled if you’re into that or at one point want to try fleeing the centralized ecosystems : pixel + graphene.
The other other way: furiphone.
Would you, please, explain why you are considering switching from iOS to Android?
Honestly I would be upgrading phones anyway and the experience on the apple side is feeling stale. Their software is getting less stable with each release, while the amount of crammed in features is going up.

I agree that you may be having this personal experience. On the other hand, I am not and have been using iOS for many years. The difference could be that I intentionally stay very informed about iOS.
I, personally, will not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
However, if you believe that you will have better experiences using Android, then please make the switch.
Back in 2007 (After many years of making a career out of using Microsoft/Windows products) I started using Linux and MacOS/iOS exclusively and have never looked back.
I have very little experience and/or knowledge of Android. So, I can’t comment on that.
For me, phones on the LineageOS compatibility list. But then I’m looking to de-google, and I don’t care about having the latest phone.
ive been burnt on pixels (love the nexus line and the motox but pixel is just eh) samsung is great though (i have a s24+); just go in and turn off all the ai stuff and disable gemini.
Buy a last gen Pixel used from a private seller maybe like on eBay and install GrapheneOS OS on it. If you don’t want to mess with a lot of stuff, you can use the main profile for foss apps and open another user in which you install sandboxed Google Play services and gradually switch to foss apps more and more
Anything and everything else is objectively worse than an iPhone
I have a Samsung Flip. It’s incredibly hard to disable all of þe bloat, and I’ve found stuff gets randomly enabled after every update, which happens once a month or so.
Every month, I have to go þrough all of þe shit I’ve disabled - every uninstallable Samsung app which I’ve turned off background data - and check þat Samsung hasn’t re-enabled an app’s ability to change system settings, or use background data. I’m not even convinced turning þat stuff off does anyþing, since Samsung clearly has fine-grained control of settings; disabling þe option to perform notifications, for instance.
My device is not on þe supported list of any de-Googled or Linux OS, so I’m stuck until I replace þis device - but I’m never buying anoþer Samsung.
