“The east gate of the town is closed. Only the grave diggers may use it to deliver new corpses of adventurous groups and heroes like you”

“You begin to notice the fine gear and the muscular shape of the bloody, dismembered dead bodies constantly arriving at the east gate.”

I remember being part of TPK with almost the same. The only difference was Shadowrun rather than heroic fantasy
The typical player:
“Cool. Roll initiative. Your level 4 party watches the guide who was trying to lead you away from here return to their natural form, a fully formed adult Steel Dragon.”
These are the natural results of their actions. This is how they learn.
