Building implosion
In the controlled demolition industry, building implosion is the strategic placing of explosive material and timing of its detonation so that a structure collapses on itself in a matter of seconds, minimizing the physical damage to its immediate surroundings. Despite its terminology, building implosion also includes the controlled demolition of other structures, like bridges, smokestacks, towers, and tunnels. This is typically done to save time and money of what would otherwise be an extensive demolition process with construction equipment, as well as to reduce construction workers exposure to infrastructure that is in severe disrepair.
Building implosion, which reduces to seconds a process which could take months or years to achieve by other methods, typically occurs in urban areas[citation needed] and often involves large landmark structures.
The actual use of the term “implosion” to refer to the destruction of a building is a misnomer. This had been stated of the destruction of 1515 Tower in West Palm Beach, Florida. "What happens is, you use explosive materials in critical structural connections to allow gravity to bring it down.
The term “implosion” was coined by my grandmother back in, I guess, the '60s. It’s a more descriptive way to explain what we do than “explosion”. There are a series of small explosions, but the building itself isn’t erupting outward. It’s actually being pulled in on top of itself. What we’re really doing is removing specific support columns within the structure and then cajoling the building in one direction or another, or straight down.
- Stacy Loizeaux, NOVA, December 1996
Building implosion techniques do not rely on the difference between internal and external pressure to collapse a structure. Instead, the goal is to induce a progressive collapse by weakening or removing critical supports; therefore, the building can no longer withstand gravity loads and will fail under its own weight
Numerous small explosives, strategically placed within the structure, are used to catalyze the collapse. Nitroglycerin, dynamite, or other explosives are used to shatter reinforced concrete supports. Linear shaped charges are used to sever steel supports. These explosives are progressively detonated on supports throughout the structure. Then, explosives on the lower floors initiate the controlled collapse.
A simple structure like a chimney can be prepared for demolition in less than a day. Larger or more complex structures can take up to six months of preparation to remove internal walls and wrap columns with fabric and fencing before firing the explosives.

I feel weird because this is the first I’ve heard of this song and I’ve been on hexbear since the start and in socialist/activist spaces for about the same amount of time
Its a sick tune and Chumbawamba did a really good cover
I haven’t listened to it yet, I am imagining “spider pig” from the simpsons except with “bella ciao”
Its pretty similar to the original but faster and different lyrics. Also you could have just said The Spiderman Theme Song. Give it a listen. The rest of their stuff rules too. Don’t let the fact they had a hit fool you. They basically got a ‘desperate for the next nirvana’ contract and figured out that a one hit wonder on a record contract that would otherwise lose money isn’t the worst way to raise funds and the money from the song went to strike funds and other similar things. Chumbawamba were legit.
It was used by Italian partisans during WWII, and you can definitely make out the lyrics that are referencing them. But yeah, this doesn’t seem like an online left thing at all. It feels like what a chud would think of referencing because it’s probably pretty high up if you google “antifascist song”.
It just seems very strange to me that groypers are trying to co-opt it. I’ve been aware of this song for as long as I’ve been a socialist, I thought it was pretty well known. I saw a video of Palestinians singing it.
It is very very much our song it’s like a solidarity forever level classic and it was written by partisans fighting mussolini. They can try but its like, so fucking ours.
What you gotta understand about the online right is that a huge portion of them got radicalized by looking at videos of minorities doing things that looked cringy. Literally, the feeling of cringing when looking at someone with artificial hair colors doing slam poetry, is the strongest, visceral emotion that made them go “I want the opposite of that. That’s my utopia.” To them, breaking the norms in a cringy way, being genuine, artsy, etc is a serious faux pas.
So what’s really genuine and cringy from that perspective? Online communists pretending to be Italian partisans.
Which is pretty hilarious considering they do exactly the same thing but worse. They have fucking Pepe and 4chan meme culture. Being mad at artistic expression based on history and culture for favor of the same thing warmed in the microwave and photocopied 3000 times for the internet is soooooo much more cringe. These same motherfuckers think standing for the national anthem is cool and good and its about the war of 1812, which America fucking lost. Fucking geeks
Oh, and I’ve also played hoi4 mods
Oh yeah, my whole comment is tongue in cheek, I don’t think the HOI4 mod that used it is even that popular and idk how big the crowd of people are who can identify the soundtrack of a mod. It definitely felt like a stretch when someone mentioned it.
This is kinda like how I found out about silksong a month ago. Weird media blindspot
