“Kokushi musou renhou” is two scoring yaku, or winning hands, in Japanese mahjong, also known as riichi. Kokushi musou is one of many Yakuman, the highest possible scoring winning hand, which consists of one of each terminal and honor tiles in hand plus one duplicate. Renhou is another very rare yaku that occurs when a player calls “ron” on another player’s tile before any calls are made or that player draws their first tile. The likelihood of either yaku is extremely rare on their own, and together is next to impossible to see ahead to avoid dealing into, but will cost you a game losing amount of points anyway! Sometimes life really is like that, where you can’t do anything but lose entirely off the bat! Good luck next time, pal
