No, but there does need to be a reasonable time limit on when it is reasonable to not have to worry about spoiling something…

Why? Do you think new people will never play this? They don’t deserve to enjoy plot turns because they’re younger than you?

Do you think that no one can talk about a thing they like just because you’ve been too lazy to interact with it? The world doesn’t stop for you. Out of consideration, spoilers will be avoided. Not indefinitely though.

I don’t think anyone said they couldn’t talk about it.

It’s just common courtesy to try to not spoil things for others. It’s really not a difficult thing to aspire to.

I get that, but sometimes the “spoiler” is what’s discussed. Or worse, we don’t realize that it’s a spoiler, because you didn’t watch some related media that revealed it.

Dude, I wasn’t talking about me. It is possible to think about things that affect other people rather than yourself, and to want other people to enjoy things as much as you did, but it seems you wouldn’t know much about that.

I’ve seen people get butthurt over spoilers from NES games. To me, that feels unreasonable.

There needs to be a point where we stop agonizing over spoiling content that is 30, 40 years old. Even if you never had a chance to play it, it’s 30 or 40 years old. I don’t know where that cutoff point needs to be. I’m just saying there needs to be one. And if you’re going to be upset over spoilers, over content that that’s that old, then maybe you need to be careful about what you’re reading.

Because sometimes it isn’t always clear what will be a spoiler. >!And I think spoilering everything would be silly and not helpful at all. Especially considering that different Lemmy clients do spoilers differently sometimes!<

There doesn’t need to be a cutoff, you just go with ordinary politeness and put it behind a spoiler tag. It’s not even hard, it’s just polite.

What price politeness? Less agro than calling someone butthurt or lazy just for suggesting you don’t spoil a fun experience.

There are very old films that I would advise against spoiling.

There’s a reason it’s called spoiler. It spoils the experience for other people. There’s no need.

Be more thoughtful and less self centred.

I’m not the one upset over words on the internet…

                  Really?

you’ve been too lazy to interact with it

                  This you?

The world doesn’t stop for you

                  Ummm…

And if you’re going to be upset over spoilers, over content that that’s that old, then maybe you need to be careful about what you’re reading.

Ah yes. It’s not your fault for spoiling, it’s those nasty people reading it who are to blame.

                  people get butthurt

                  …but not you, clearly! /s

Like a true conservative, you call anyone criticizing your lack of consideration and empathy belittling names.

Someone says “aw don’t do that it spoils the fun for others”, and it sets you off!

You didn’t use the phrase “millennial snowflakes” because you didn’t want to sound like an entitled boomer with no empathy shouting at people for suggesting it might be nice to be kind, but it didn’t work! You do sound like an entitled boomer with no empathy shouting at people for suggesting it might be nice to be kind.
