The US Civil War is actually part of the reason Texas sucks so much today. A not insignificant number of people living there wanted to stay in the Union, at least 25% of people who could vote (white men) didn’t want to join the confederacy. After Texas joined, they executed a lot of Unionists and most of the others fled. They lost generations of people who would have been the “moderate” wing. This is pretty much exactly what’s happening now in states that are doing everything they can to push out libs and/or keep them out (example, OK is talking about testing teachers who move there for wokeness)

TX would probably be more like Colorado or other “purple” states. Not that this would matter much, I just think it’s interesting

Of course, Texas only existed in the Union in the first place because they fought Mexico for the “right” to own slaves so this so called “moderate wing” would still probably be like the enlightened centrist proto-Nazis at best
