Elizabeth Gurley Flynn was born in 1890 in Concord, New Hampshire, to a radical, activist working-class family. When she was 10, the family moved to the South Bronx, where she attended public school. By the time she was 15, Flynn was active in socialist groups. At 15, she gave her first public speech, and the next year she was expelled from high school. She became a full-time organizer for the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW).
In the years leading up to World War I, Flynn was active on women’s rights, free speech for IWW speakers and organizing textile strikes in places like Lawrence, Massachusetts, and Paterson, New Jersey. She also worked to organize garment workers in Pennsylvania, silk weavers in New Jersey, restaurant workers in New York City and miners in Minnesota.
Flynn opposed the war when it broke out, and like many war opponents, she was charged with espionage. The charges were dropped and Flynn began working to defend immigrants threatened with deportation for their opposition to the war.
In 1920, Flynn helped found the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and was elected to the national board. From 1927-1930, she chaired International Labor Defense. During that time she was active in trying to free jailed labor organizers Thomas J. Mooney and Warren K. Billings. For the first half of the 1930s, she withdrew from public life because of bad health, but she returned to public life in 1939 and was re-elected to the ACLU board. When Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin signed a nonagression pact, the ACLU expelled all Communist Party members from its ranks, including Flynn.
Flynn ran for the Communist Party of America’s Central Committee successfully, and ran for a seat in Congress unsuccessfully. During World War II, Flynn fought for women’s economic equality. After the war, as communism grew more unpopular in the United States, Flynn shifted back to defending free speech rights for radicals. In 1951, she was arrested for conspiracy to overthrow the government based on the Smith Act of 1940. She spent more than two years in prison.
She returned to political action once she was out of prison, and in 1961, she became the first woman elected national chair of the Communist Pary. A critic of the Soviet Union, Flynn traveled behind the Iron Curtain and was stricken ill. She died in the USSR and was given a state funeral in Red Square.

I’m down 14kg (intentional, safe, and good)
nice work comrade that shit ain’t easy
It feels good and I want to keep doing it
reveal your secrets
It was counting calories and weighing food. I realized I was getting a third to half the protein that I needed beforehand. Any time I would cut I would get dizzy, run out of energy for exercise, and become ravenously hungry. Once I got the 1.6g/kg of protein the hunger became annoying instead of unbearable. I’ll do things like water and protein powder, protein eggos, more beanis, etc. I’ll do shit like lentils, rice, and couscous in a single pot.
I do 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off. I do a bunch of BJJ. I call my activity level low even though the data bares out that it’s actually more like mid for my TDEE and shoot for a 500 calorie deficit. I love my leftovers from big meal preps, but I put them in a giga-tupperware and scoop as convenient.
When I aimed for the calories and protein, all the dietary habits conformed to the ideals. Things stopped being fried, sauces weren’t as creamy, meal sizes adjusted over time.
The near-universal political illiteracy of USians leads to incoherent sentences like the above.
Genuinely not sure how these people navigate the political landscape.
well the political landscape as they conceive of it does not contain leftism of any kind so from their point of view it makes perfect sense to conflate left and liberal
Yep, I understand how it arises, but it’s still an incredible layer of mind palace at work.

I got diagnosed with ADHD and take amphetamines for this. Didn’t happen until iwas in my 30s and before that I mostly just held on for dear life until i quit my job and had to restart my life.
I hope you can find a way through this, it’s brutal
Can you have every mental illness at once? I both feel completely sane and like I have borderline and ADHD and something extra on top
On days I don’t want to focus I do it like couch25k where I do 5 minutes on 5 minutes off. Then I try 10 minutes with a 5 minute break. Then I start actually doing a mini-pomodoro where I get like 15 on 3 off. By then I’ve usually sunk my teeth into something actionable and do my 1hr on 10 min off that I wanted the whole time.
Pomodoro timers used to help

My kitty still absolutely NEEDS to be picked up and held every time I wake up or come home from anything longer than 2 hours and I only wish I was never busy soni could do it longer.
My cat waits for me to shower after work
That’s considerate
Its really strange how some people will use “this person is taking ozempic” as an insult. Like its a bad thing to take a medication if you’re struggling with an eating disorder or drug addiction???
: “I fucking love economics!”
: “Economics says: immigration is a net-positive, income inequality is bad for the economy, protectionism is bad, renewables are financially more feasible, walkability and public transportation are better for the economy, and you suck.”
“Nooooooooo!”
Sometimes I think about the level of depression I experienced when I was around 12 and genuinely nothing I’ve experienced since has been as bad as that
I dont fully know what caused it but even after something traumatizing happens to me now I’m always like this still really doesn’t compare to how bad that was
Also funny in an ironic way that literally no adult in my life did anything helpful but many of them did things that actively made it worse
Ate a lot of spaghetti and now I feel shame
What are we even supposed to be doing
I just remembered how in my first year of English classes, the teacher taught us to use “how do you do” as if it was a normal greeting. What a twisted little prank.
howdy do there pardner
Mighty fine myself thank you pardner!
it like this sometimes
so Vicky 3 may have something useful in it. had a long discussion with a formerly trump supporting co-worker (he seems like a squishy normie mostly apolitical rural guy).
i basically described market socialism to him as a “Cooperative Economy”, responding to him being blackpilled about data centers and inhuman government. then I just described market socialism. by the end of our discussion he said “yeah we should just let the workers run these corporations and own them”.
yeah “Cooperative Economy”, it sounds good to americabrains. no red scare trigger words.
i’ve been using for others but he’s the first that just straight up stated he wanted to seize the means (by using the government to purchase the corps from the owners/investors and giving ownership to workers). then I said a violent revolution may be required, and he sighed and agreed (then we had to get back to our depts)
Push the bit. Is not a man entitled to the sweat of his brow? If I dig a hole I should get paid? Why does my boss get to spend someone else money? If he wanted money he should show some personal responsibility and earn it himself. Shovel right there. He cna just dig same as me.
he did love the idea of democratically electing management and the CEO. i suggested elections from their peer groups. workers elect managers, managers elect CEO, limited terms and recall. he thought that sounded great.
still have to pry the idea that everything bad is purely “wall street” but it’s a good start. he’s not entirely wrong
