I watched the video for you — the reason is basically because it’s realistic (see: criticisms of flying cars) and that it suits the tone that Skeleton Crew is going for, namely that At Attin is a fairly boring world similar to the quintessential US suburb, which lets people who grew up in such a place more easily insert themselves into the four main characters before they go on their grand adventure.
