  • There is no such thing as the “North Atlantic” it is a nonsensical organization, there is no logical reason for the US and Canada to be in a millitary alliance based on the made up polity of the “North Atlantic”, not saying that European countries shouldn’t care about regional defense, but that has nothing to do with the US or Canada. Nato is just an excuse for the US to park it’s nukes and bases in Europe and extend it’s millitary power, no one needs nukes, and people especially don’t need foreign nukes in their country.

edit: also Trump would never pull out of NATO, the farthest he would ever go is threaten and then coerce European countries pay more of a share of the budget and say he made a “better deal”, but he’s quite obviously bluffing

  • That’s pretty unlikely unless he’s doing a big pivot in his branding, he quite literally has said the US should team up with Russia to fight/oppose China.

Carlson’s dissenting line on Ukraine policy has to be understood in light of his obsession with fighting China. As he outlined back in 2019, his dim view of Washington’s Russia strategy came from the fact that he viewed China, not Russia, as “our main enemy,” and that “the United States ought to be in a relationship with Russia aligned against China to the extent that we can.”

He reiterated this point three years later: because “China is the preeminent threat to the United States,” and because it’s impossible “to engage meaningfully simultaneously in Europe and in Asia,” the US focus on Ukraine only “detracts from our attention to China,” while at the same time pushing Moscow “into an alliance of convenience of necessity with the Chinese government.”

    https://www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/1212/average-net-worth-of-the-1.aspx

As of 2019, the top 1% of household net worth in the U.S. starts at $11,099,166.

It depends what you mean by public records, if you’re a private investigator or really good at digging through records you can find things, but it’s not like it’s easy and even then it’s only the stuff that needs to be reported by law which is not a lot, the only reason I mentioned Delaware is it’s famous for being a destinination for LLCs which people use to hide their money

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/apr/06/panama-papers-us-tax-havens-delaware

“You don’t really have to go to Panama or other tax havens. They are not the only ones making it possible for corrupt officials and other criminals to launder their money. You can do it in every state in the US,” explained Shah.

“In every state in the US, you can incorporate an LLC – [a limited liability company] – or another legal entity and you don’t have to disclose who the beneficiary on it is. In fact, Delaware is so synonymous with anonymous companies and ghost corporations that it was named in Transparency International’s Unmask the Corrupt campaign as one of the most symbolic cases of corruption.”

I think you would be surprised at how much of it is in LLCs in Delware or trusts in South Dakota, there are plenty of tax loopholes domestically as well, most people under hundred-millionaire status are not doing panama papers type stuff

  • When a lemmy thread is put in the dunktank and people go to the thread from the post in the dunktank even if it isn’t linked it still is brigading, it’s brigading when the tankiejerk places do it to lemmygrad too, it’s funneling people into a thread that they only saw because it was posted in the dunktank. If that isn’t brigading then nothing is brigading.

It’s disengenious to try to spin it as people only finding stuff in the all tab, because people do jump into the threads they see in the dunktank and that definitely hasn’t contributed to making any goodwill for this site among other instances, if the person deserves to be dunked on people will find it they dont need a giant bat signal post in the dunktank to figure it out.

I do think most of the people put in there deserve it on some level, but you guys are speedrunning every other user to instance ban hexbear whenever that comes out.
