We can all see you starting down your nose. And we know you have no science to contribute here…
You’re the one coming up short is my point.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•GenAI vs. ML / Know what we are fighting against
2·15 days agoOK, that part was simple enough. And yeah, language involves some fascinating math, actually, so it kinda makes sense as a category for generative or predictive algorithms or what have you.

3·15 days agoAnd LLM is large language model? As opposed to a “language model”, which I figure is the same mathematical principles but smaller scale?

71·15 days agoAh, I realize where I misunderstood. My bad.
Still, though, isn’t every “AI” algorithm they’ve come up with a generative machine learning or what have you? Cause now I’m confused 😝

614·15 days agoUmm, no, AGI, or Artificial General Intellegence, the new term they invented for actual AI, doesn’t exist. And it’s very likely a pipe dream for all we know.
No, what is currently marketed as AI, including Claude and ChatGPT and all the others, is just an LLM. On steroids, sure - but just a generative machine learning algorithm. There has been no breakthrough; that’s why they’re desperately making the LLMs just bigger and bigger, cause they got nothing else.
The original books never go further into it, but essentially yes. There’s a single bit of dialogue when Paul’s son talks about hunter seeker robots exterminating mankind. But in the prequel books, during the Butlerian jihad, just before it’s defeat the enemy ai makes copies of itself and launched them to random distant stars. And mind you, this was before faster then light travel (the discovery of which is what actually helped the humans win). But presumably Omnius returns for a reckoning.

Funny@sh.itjust.works•The weirdest thing about American culture
2·19 days agoConsidering that giving cash to someone under any other circumstances is considered tacky (even gift certificates/cards are more acceptable, and that’s just cash with limits on where/how you can spend it), it is weird that tipping is so ingrained in our culture. And unsettling, to be honest…

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Just got arrested for a supposed DWI even though I blew a 0.0000000. Don't cops need to read your Miranda rights to you? I asked for a blood or hair follicle test and I was denied. WTH is happening?
81·25 days agoRight. Because their job, literally, is to surveil and harass citizens on behalf of a bunch of sociopathic parasites that rape, torture, and murder children.
And, dude, what’s the mother-fucking point of feeding a troll, such as yourself, if you’re not gonna at least be amusing?!? My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined!

81·25 days agoYou always victim blame, or you just like the taste of the of that boot?
Your argument, then, is that cops lying and/or coercing false confessions and the like out of their victims somehow benefits everyone? Please, do tell.

41·25 days agoActually, as far as Miranda rights, I could’ve swore the corrupt as hell SCOUTS recently overturned precedent on that and in doing so killed your right to have your Miranda rights recited to you at all. You still have said rights, in theory, but piggies no longer have to disclose that.
Rather, their test of a malware tool powered by an llm went much better than expected? Bullshit, anyhow…
