I’m not trying to argue that they didn’t need to add that detail at all, or that it wasn’t important to add. My point is, (and I didn’t do a good job of articulating it before), that there’s no point in downvoting it; It’s not a huge deal. In my opinion, people mass downvoting a comment without saying why, is like a group of individuals in a physical location, audibly grumbling because they don’t like what someone has to say, without actually explaining why they’re grumbling, and then expecting the person they’re collectively grumbling at to somehow figure it out on their own. It’s ridiculous. If you don’t agree with how OP went about something, say something instead of just saying “grr” and doing nothing.

We’re in a building full of people who’re trying to help out one guy who asked a question. There’s a bunch of bystanders standing around getting all grumbly because he didn’t ask the question with enough detail. They haven’t shared this reasoning with one another; that’s just silently going through their mind, and they can only assume what each other are thinking. I’m standing there with them finding it kind of stupid but kinda funny too, that they’re grumbling. “If you have a problem with it then why don’t you say something instead of sitting in the corner whining?”

I don’t see why it matters that they didn’t include every detail. They are asking what alternatives there are; they weren’t asking for alternatives based on their specific needs; just alternatives, and that’s what people gave them. And they accepted Chimera OS as a (to them) seemingly good option and what they are choosing to install. Not every post needs to be extravagantly laid out in perfect detail. If it’s a complex support post, sure. But a simple question can have more details added when necessary in the comments.

That’s a fair desire for a touchscreen device. Don’t know why people are downvoting so much. You want GNOME on something that’s not Bazzite. To be honest, I’m looking for a good non SteamOS and non Bazzite distro pre-configured for Deck too (when I get one), for my own reasons. So you’re not the only one.

Same tbh. I bought Metroid Prime Remastered and Tears of the Kingdom brand new in 2023 but it was not long after that I decided to stop buying their games brand new entirely. My thinking was that I’ll buy a Switch 2 brand new maybe a year after it comes out, unless they really mess up with physical games as much as Xbox has, requiring internet, or something stupid like PS5 slim/pro’s DRM in the disc drive that demands a one-time connection. Those hopes about physical games being good seem to be okay, but the pricing of the Switch 2 has completely soured the idea of buying the console instead. And the sheer price of the games makes me know I won’t even be able to afford to buy games if I even got the console years after release (because they never drop game prices).

Oh, okay. Yeah, the game means a lot to me and my siblings who played it on the old family computer when I was 4-7. Outside of maybe some kids educational games, it was most likely the first real videogame I ever played. It was either that, or Mario 64 at my Dads house which I also played at that age.

It’s alright, those games are all Steam Deck verified so they’ll play just fine.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos was a childhood favourite of mine that I played when I was 6 in the mid-late 00s and the remaster just came out yesterday! It’s a fun 3D platformer from the 90s that was on the PS1/PC and was mainly made for kids. On PC it’s a GOG exclusive though, so you’d have to set up Heroic Games Launcher to download the game, then add the game manually to your Steam library if you don’t want your child messing around with desktop mode. I think it’s very suitable for his age. The original game had tank controls which he might not like if he’s used to modern game controls, but the new remaster has the option for full dual analogue stick controls which makes it feel like a normal modern game to control. I run a Linux desktop and the game works perfectly on the newest Proton version.

I know this is arguably not Nintendo, but I’m playing the new remaster of the classic PS1 & PC game Croc: Legend of the Gobbos that just came out. I have the Nintendo Switch physical Collector’s Edition pre-ordered which comes with an awesome statue of Croc, but I haven’t received it yet and double-dipped on PC due to having played it with the keyboard on my childhood PC back in the day.

(Correction: BOTW + Switch 2 Edition pack is $110, not $120)

If you only get the upgrade for the duration that you have the subscription, then that definitely doesn’t make the one-time-purchase cost justified in my opinion. If you consider that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is (still) $90 on it’s own, the upgrade being included for $110 means that the upgrade alone will be at least $20. While I was watching the direct, I thought it was stupid you had to pay for it at all, but honestly expected it to only be $5 at the most. After all, when you buy a Switch 2, you’re paying for the power the console has in that purchase. You shouldn’t be forced to then unlock that power through a further DLC; it’s not like they remastered the game or something. This is like Tesla making you pay extra for features that are already built into their cars.

However, I do think that the Switch 2 Edition packs like the one in Kirby and the Forgotten Land are justified to cost money, because they actually include a new campaign like a normal DLC should. Even with Kirby though, the actual graphical enhancements should be free. The new campaign should be the only paid part.

My new trend is not buying from Nintendo.

I’m in Australia too. Did you notice that they increased the price of the slightly-improved Switch 2 Pro Controller to $120 AUD compared to the Switch 1 Pro Controllers $99. What a load of crap. How much is the dock gonna be separate? $200? Plus, if you wanna buy Breath of the Wild with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition pack included, it’s going to cost you $120 $110… a game from 2017 that only had a value for the resolution tweaked and an increased framerate cap…

Not exclusivity. The game was announced to be coming to the Switch 1 with the last trailer in June last year.

Maybe they’ll come out with some official mousepad. I can’t wait to see if they do Mario Paint and a new Mario Maker with this too, though.

I bought it when it came out even though I couldn’t reasonably afford it, because at the time my stupid teen-aged self wanted to collect every Nintendo published game on the Switch, and thought the game was going to be sold out if I didn’t get it. I was well aware it was scummy of Nintendo at the time, but I bought it because I was sure they wouldn’t do it again. I even got the limited time Fire Emblem English translation and still haven’t touched it yet.

Now they’re gonna release it on the eShop right!?.. Right?

Unless that’s the only Switch game you play, you are going to have a hard time realising that Switch emulation isn’t far developed enough yet for you to play a lot of your games without issues and just throw away your real Switch. Plus, Nintendo’s takedowns of Yuzu and Ryujinx last year massively slowed down development.

That’s funny, I think you’re probably right. This is the message at the bottom of the page only if you select the “Physical” option first. If you select the “Digital” option, the cancer and reproductive harm message doesn’t appear.

Oh yeah, I didn’t mean to make it sound like it was distro-speciffic, I just think that Bazzite was the primary platform target originally (but I might be wrong)
