  • Bookings are down far more than 2%. That number is for arrivals which is the realization of bookings made months ago. The article itself shows bookings down double digits from many European countries.

The quotes from American airlines say international bookings are ok because those airlines mostly cater to Americans travelling abroad. What do European airlines have to say about traffic to the US? How is the summer looking at Lufthansa?

This article cherry picks data. I feel like it was written to convince us that what we are hearing is false, not to reflect the facts.

In Canada, some airlines have already started to cancel entire routes due to lack of demand.

I agree though, the impact should be greater.

  • Seems pretty clear that we are heading into an alliance between the Liberals and the Bloc. They align pretty well on issues outside of Quebec.

If the Liberals allow their Quebec ridings to support Quebec issues that the Bloc cares about, the Bloc will probably continue to support the Liberals more generally.

Unless the Bloc joins a non-confidence against the Liberals, the Liberals can effectively govern as if they had a majority.

And it will take 3 parties to gang up on the libs to force non-confidence. That means BOTH the NDP and the Bloc joining with the Conservatives. How likely does that seem? Even the Conservatives and Bloc together do not have the votes. The NDP sure doesn’t.

As of now, the Liberals only need 3 votes from outside the party on any given issue. On most issues, they should have little trouble overcoming the Conservative opposition.

  • The NDP cannot force anything. They are not even an official party.

Even if the NDP and Conservatives Team up, they cannot force non-confidence without support from the Bloc.

The liberals and the Bloc are the two parties with power right now. What the liberals have to do is act like the liberals in Quebec are pseudo Bloc MPs. That will keep the Bloc on their side and effectively allow them to act like they have a majority otherwise.

  • I am not advocating. However, we should all understand that there are many countries with mandatory military service that do not use them in war.

In addition to military preparedness and defence, it can be an opportunity for greater citizen engagement and to significantly invest in training and skills. This has social and economic benefits beyond war.

Sweden has mandatory military service. How many wars have they started in your lifetime.

Again, not taking a position. Just pointing out that mandatory military service does not have to translate into young men in body bags.

  • Politics is real.

Look at the US. Winning matters. A lot. A lot more than just being right.

Dying on hills that cannot be held is not leadership.

Knowing what battles to fight is leadership.

Canada deserves the politicians it is willing and able to elect. Blaming politicians for the quality of candidate that the electorate will consider is folly. Point your derision in the right direction. We are not in a situation where Canadians are demanding something that our leaders are not delivering. On some issues, we are demanding that our leaders do not deliver.

    The problem is us.
