That call was even more pathetic than I anticipated.
This was the correct call. Here are two different explanations why. While the rule may not be great, the umpire was right. They don’t get to decide which rules are good and which aren’t. They have to enforce them.
I don’t watch baseball but from what I gather, they’re better off letting the fans collectively ump from an app on their phones nowadays.
Well . . . keep not watching, probably.
